Attention: OP is a known troll
The original poster is a known troll. His "Doom for Columbine" Doom3 mod idea was flamed to death on boards all over the net, but he kept posting that it was really a great idea till he was banned from doomworld.com forums and many others. Check this planetcrap thread, where he goes by the nickname "lexx". But be prepared. You're going to witness a really sick mind in action.
Don't let his low UID fool you. He is nothing more than a lousy internet troll. If u have the mod points, I urge you to mod his posts DOWN! This is a person with a sick mind|disturbed personality. This guy needs help. Urgently. -
Re:no killing
I agree, however, I have no clue how The Sims became such a hit.
A pertinent quote from another message board:
Most gamers, when they play The Sims, won't ever see what "the fuss is about". Because it isn't for them. It is for the insanely huge market of everyone who isn't them.

Re:I can prove that VRML will never catch on...
Then how do you explain this? Okay... maybe not hardcore, but I think it's proof of concept.

Re:it's about cheating for the masses
I'm not even sure why this is a story. Asus originally proposed this back in July of 2000. I emailed that in on the last story, but I guess it didn't get read. Asus had plenty of time to think on this, and in fact, they met with just as much criticism in 2000. If this is anything, it's a publicity stunt, or possibly one last effort at getting these drivers out in hopes of monopolizing the market for 3D cards.

Folks, this is standard for the industry...
When you buy software, you are actually purchasing a license to use to the software, and vendors routinely insert clauses in their license agreements that help them meet their goals in the marketplace.
For example, Netscape prohibits publishing benchmarks in the license agreement for its Client software. The games developer Apogee (a.k.a. 3DRealms) even added a clause to its license agreement earlier this year that prevented negative reviews of its product! So Microsoft is really not acting unusually harsh in this regard. -
Re:Valid concerns...unfortunately, it looks like there is not going to be a linux client for Tribes 2.
Dave Georgeson says there still may be a SERVER ported to linux if they have time, but that's not guaranteed, and the linux client is looking very unlikely.
Other games which were promising linux ports are also dropping off the bandwagon. Duke Nukem Forever has now said that a linux port just isn't worth their time (even though they are based off the UT engine which has a Linux port already) and it's not gonna happen.
No games for linux without a market, and no market without games. The age old problem. And companies faced with losing money (apparently) on linux ports just aren't feeling that it's worth it anymore.
Hopefully the numbers will continue to grow, and companies will start to see profits by releasing linux games. For me, as a gamer and a linux user, there is nothing I want more than to see my favorite games on my favorite OS.

Sh*tSome web sites/discussion boards already have this.
Observe the application called Sh*t which is an (albiet Windows) app for posting/reading PlanetCrap (I'm serious....).
I'm sure someone could come up with something similar for Slashdot.
Either that, or Rob just makes a Gecko-only version and gets high on DHTML
:-)
