Re:Consequences of non-stop drive
Maybe it's different where you are.

How do red light cameras work?
Red light cameras operate automatically, day and night. A red light camera is connected to traffic lights and is activated when a vehicle crosses the white stop line. The camera is programmed to take photographs of any vehicle travelling over the stop line or entering the intersection after the lights have turned red. The camera will not be triggered by vehicles crossing the stop line on yellow or green lights.

Why not a cheek swab?
Why not use a swab as an initial indicator like in other parts of the world.
I don't understand why this necessitates new technology, especially when it would seem more important to study level of impairment with drug concentration before going any further down the legislative road.

auto-policing is a bitch
This has been implemented in Queensland, Australia: ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) mounted on patrol cars. And with that comes the automatic and immediate lookup of vehicles in police and linked databases.
11.17 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systemI like police to be able to their job (I work for QLD Police, in IT supporting this infrastructure!) but auto-policing is bordering on harassment!
Phase 2 - Automatic Facial Recognition installed on Google Glasses for policeman? -
Re:RTFS
Oh you mean like how the Australian parliament figured out the implications of the and rejected them in favour of sanity?
You don't understand, those laws are great! I mean sure, people still get murdered, but it's more likely to be with a knife that a GUN *shrieks hysterically*. Wouldn't you feel much better to have yourself or a family member killed by a knife instead of a GUN *shrieks hysterically*. (Sorry, I have to shriek whenever that word is mentioned, it's the law)
Just how pathetic is it here? The QLD Police recommend screaming as one of the most effective self defense methods. If you can't run away that is. Its shameful.
It would be easier to buy firearms illegally than legally here, and even if you have a firearm legally, self defence is an illegal use of that firearm and would likely result in you being charged and loosing your license, even if it was against an armed intruder.
Note to USians: make adoption of the Bill of Rights a condition of US/Australia free trade agreements. Please. Or include much more liberal immigration agreements with us, make it easier for us to escape to freedom. -
Re:Aaargh!
This is a great story:
------
Documentary maker and freelance TV cameraman Terry Turner thought he was the victim of a drive-by shooting outside his Paradise Point home on Wednesday. He had heard a motorcycle and then a bang and felt blood coming from a head wound.
But police investigations revealed the bang almost certainly came from a postman's backfiring motorbike. Police believe the noise startled Turner and he banged his head on a boat he was repairing in his driveway.
After he was taken to Gold Coast Hospital, police searched his home for bullets. They allegedly found some, but none had been used to shoot Turner.
Instead, police later charged him with weapons offences involving a Glock 9mm magazine containing ammunition, a Taser stun gun and handcuffs. Turner was bailed to appear in court next month.

-----
From the first story, I think he either ran with the wrong crowd on occasion, or was paranoid that someone was going to "get him" after one of his exposé-style docos, so he got a gun for protection. Unfortunately for him, "protection" is not a valid reason for getting a gun licence in Queensland.

Re:The reason MN doesn't have the code
A single beer is unlikely to put you over any limit.* The exception being that new or learner drivers in some locales have a zero alcohol limit.
In my state, the legal limit for general car drivers is 0.05%.
It is stated here:Most people are unaware of how much alcohol it could take before they reach the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit of
.05. The following can be used as a GUIDE for most people. However, everyone is different and other factors such as weight, age, medication and whether you have eaten can also affect your BAC.MEN - 2 standard drinks in the first hour and only one standard drink every hour thereafter.
WOMEN - 1 standard drink in the first hour and only one standard drink every hour thereafter.
What constitutes a 'standard drink' (10 grams of alcohol) is given in the link.
*Alright, unless you're from the UK and drink seriously alcoholic beer named something like the Pickled Bishop by the pint.

Down Under
Now I am surprised! Here in the land Down Under, we have always been compelled to identify ourselves to police. Name and address, but there's no ID card requirement.
There is also a charge for giving police a false name.
Try this for a start.
Or Google
