Moved more than that after a slashdotting
Got slashdotted a few years ago when I was hosting Beethoven's symphonies that the BBC had made available for download.
~167GB in 5 hours. More here. The MRTG graphs are fun:
The sheer volume of traffic in GB for wikileaks doesn't seem terribly surprising. Rather, I suspect it is the dynamic nature of the website that brought it down. Simple filehosting doesn't take much in terms of resources provided your pipe is fat enough. Dynamic content, OTOH, does. I suspect they'll need to tweak/implement a caching system to mitigate this problem going forward.

Bone mass concerns
There was a quote from the article that was overlooked, for not-so-surprising reasons:
Researchers are also not sure whether the quality of the new bone matches that of the bone mass lost, he told New Scientist.
This is important for one main reason, that most people don't know. Bone marrow turns into fat as people age, and Krikalev has done quite a bit of aging in the last two years. This article is somewhat related to the subject, and you all might find it interesting.

And will MS sue Medicare later?
I wonder if Vista will run on Vista?
:pSeriously, do some better research next time, Microsoft. And try not to pick such a shitty name. Shit, Windows 2008 (or whenever it's coming out) would have been better.

Re:Name confusion?
Medicare is releasing their software packaged for doctors (for free) called Vista this August. Hooray name confusion.

The real slashdot effect on downloading...If you get bored, I wrote an analysis of the slashdot effect, seeing as how I was the person hosting those symphonies when all of a sudden I randomly got
/.ed. "An analysis of the slashdot effect."The fury of a slashdotting is truly an impressive thing.

This will be a lot cooler when...
LROC goes up, we are able to view the actual remains from the Apollo missions.
