Re:Chrome - the web browser that's added as bloatw
The claim was specifically that growth in market share was due to being bundled.
Not even close. The claim was that bundling provides an advantage. Not that it completely accounts for it.
And the point about bloatware is not defensible. Chrome abuses system resources by consuming way too much ram, fucks up your battery life (as is proven time and time again), and is a CPU hog
.. probably because of all the private information it collects compared to some other browsers. And what evidence do you have that Google is paying anyone to include Chrome?
Because we're not retarded. You require PROOF that you need to pay a company to bundle your product? Seriously?
Found after 20 seconds of googling.

"A Google spokesman indicated that other deals might be in the works. "Users' response to Google Chrome has been outstanding, and we're continuing to explore ways to make Chrome accessible to even more people. This could potentially include distribution via a number of channels, such as the distribution we are currently doing with Avast."
"make Chrome accessible"
.. wow, if only users had access to Chrome. But they don't !! We HAVE TO bundle it. Oh boy !Besides, Google has been paying for market share for about 10 years now.

Flagship Content: In-Depth Articles via the BlogWhat Jakob Nielsen doesn't seem to have fully grasped is that there are plenty of bloggers creating quality, thorough articles and delivering them via blogs. Bloggers like Brian Clark at Copyblogger, Darren Rowse at ProBlogger and Chris Garrett have proven the value of what's become known as "flagship content" - authoritative, in-depth articles from writers with strong niche expertise. Done correctly, these articles/posts create exactly the kind of long-term value Nielsen is advocating.
It's really not about blogs vs. "web sites" but about the quality of the content and the expertise of the author. The signal-to-noise ratio in the blogosphere may be high, but that's increasingly true of "mainstream media" as well.

Re:6 Figure Salaries?
Chunni, your arrogance and unintelligence blew me right off the chair.
People can earn six figures doing absolutely anything in the entire world if they're good enough at it. I could go door-to-door and sell uber-padded toilet paper for $10/roll if I was an amazing salesmen. Why do you think that writing on a website and then selling advertising on the tens of thousands of people who read what you have to say won't make six figures? The guy mentioned in the article, Darren Rowse, is a friend of mine and I can absolutely vouch for him making crazy bank from his weblog. Hell, my business partner Paul has sold off a few of his weblogs for enough dough each time to buy a BMW coupe.
If anyone is good at what they do, it's easy for them to make six figures a year. I mean damn, George Bush is awful at what he does and he still makes over $200k, so if he can do it, why can't brilliant bloggers?

The real secret is...From one of deeplinked FA:
And so the lesson the Manolo he takes away from this for the new bloggers is to be aware that the large part of the mission of the blogging it is to entertain, and so you must write well, in the lively manner.

ProBlogger
loads of bloggers making big money from blogging these days.
I follow ProBlogger every day - he's someone who earns well over $100,000 per year from his own personal blogs - and he's one of the small guys. -
Re:For all the whining teenagers
You're completely mistaken. Blogging software, while usually used for personal journals by teens, is actually just an evolution of static websites. A blog enables a writer to produce content quickly without having to worry about editing html.
It's being used to make BOATLOADS of money by such folks as WeblogsInc and others.
For more information about professional blogging, check out the guru himself: Darren Rowse. Darren makes a 6-figure income simply by providing quality, regular information on a number of websites he owns and operates. -

Blog entrepreneurs
More people are looking through cashing in on their blogs, like through Adsense, and other schemes like BlogKits BlogMatch which show that AdSense doesn't work for blogs. Then we have the commercially sponsored blogs from companies like Gawker Media - such as Lifehacker for Sony.
Here's some analysis on commercial blogging. (Yes, it's from a blog!)
