Re:Ugh..It might frustrate many more now.
I've a friend working for a Linux company that's preparing a distro based on Debian. Many of you might know of it, Progeny Linux. My friend tells me this will be a full GUI distro, with GNOME interfaces for practically everything (installer included). It's gotten my attention.ps. For the record, I run WinNT/Win9x dual booting. So far, I've no need to switch operating systems.

Distributed OS based on Debian
I believe this is what Ian Murdock's Progeny Linux is working on. They are working on a system based on Debian to turn a network of workstations into a seemless system. Interview questions about this for Ian were posted on
/. just last week. -
Re:Survival of NOW
I'm quite sure that Linux NOW is not a distribution, but rather a protocal or application. Besides, why would the head of Debian leave to start another distribution? Please read the link.
And shame on all those moderators that moderated without reading the story!

If Linux is not Unix, than what is it?(This point was made over on technocrat by someone else....and I had the same thought. I guess I need a beard and have it long and grey)
In the press release, it states:
Progeny bases its development on the Debian version of Linux, the operating system that is the major rival to UNIX and Windows NT in the server market. This implies that Linux isn't unix, because who puts into a press release that we are a major rival to ourselfs.
If taking the API of UNIX and copying the API, using the same set of commands, using the same compilers and other userspace applications that unix uses doesn't make you unix, then WHAT EXACTLY are you? Ashamed of your proud UNIX roots?

This is not a fiduciary responsibility issue. You have to understand that the boss in this case has an obligation to the company's owners and shareholders to maximize profits.
I guess I should state my background. I am president of Linux Capital Group, chairman of Progeny Linux, and chairman of another company that will be announced in a week or so. People have invested Millions in these companies. Thus, I have fiduciary responsibility.
Amazon suing to protect the one-click patent was a questionable decision, but was not against the law. Cheating on software licenses exposes your company to civil liability and is also against a number of criminal laws.
None of my stockholders would be able to prosecute a case that I have irresponsibly refrained from breaking the law, lying, etc., when such behavior would have saved them money!
I also run Open Source businesses, and can justify that to the stockholders and in court, dispite what's been written on that topic here previously. The business plans are based on Open Source and the businesses don't succeed if we play fast and loose with the community.
Thanks
