Good rumor, but... And Cameron's treamtment here..
Harry Knowles' site declines on a weekly basis as he continues to focus on how he can make money off his notoriety. He only has one real scooper anymore, and the scoop was confirmed in Daily Variety today - with a huge disclaimer.
Raimi has been offered the Spiderman project. The problem is, he's all set to direct a Billy Bob Thornton script called The Gift with Keanu Reeves and Cate Blanchett. It's ready to roll. In order for Spiderman to happen, Paramount will have to let Raimi go as soon as photography wraps on the Gift to go shoot Spiderman, and then he'll edit them together - Sony has to have Spiderman out for summer 2001 for some arcane contractural reasons that have kept the project stalled for years. Read about it here.
Raimi is a perfect fit - imagine Darkman with a huge budget, and James Cameron worships the guy - and Cameron wrote the treatment for Spiderman that would be the greatest comic book adaptation ever made - and probably the best nerd movie ever made. Well Sony bought the Cameron treatment, and have since moved on to multiple drafts by different writers, but hopefully Raimi will stick to the Cameron one, which you can read here. And for anyone who hates Cameron vis a vis his success with Titanic, just read the damn thing. It's incredible.
I find this is Slashdot worthy news - news for Nerds. Raimi is a huge nerd, with a huge nerd audience, and why does every bowel movement George Lucas make get reported here, especially when he just seems obsessed with crapping on the heads of his loyal audience?

It's not about being the first...The invention of the radio - like many other inventions - cannot be credited to one man alone. The experiments and creations of Maxwell, Hertz, Popoff, Marconi, Braun and many others lead to what we know today under the vague term "radio". Perhaps we as nerds tend to like the idea that there's an oppressed and ignored geek (like us) behind all of our modern toys.
However, Gugliemo Marconi was first to establish wireless telegraphy (first transatlantic morse signal) even though his work was far from original. He realized the importance of this technology (contrary to the opionion of the scientific elite), improved it until it was mature thus making it popular and lucrative. Not just "being the first" but this mixture of a brilliant scientist, unconventional thinker and businessman made him go into our history books.

Only Half A Quack?Well, Randell Mills doesn't seem to be a complete quack.
A qui ck search on IBM's patent site reveals 8 patents, most of them having to do with DNA and gene therapy.
This site lists his biography, including his academic history, his resume, a list of supposed patents (11 of them), and a list of publications. None of them seem to be from peer-reviewed journals though?
Also, the Aquarian Research Foundation is backing him. A quote from their page:
BlackLight Power will present about 10 compounds to the American Chemical Society and "five papers that give explicit details and is absolutely reproducible," Dr. Mills said. "I have a unified field theory that's absolutely testable at every stage and on every item." "Thank God we're getting our day in court," Dr. Mills said.

Re:equipment?
i stand corrected.
it didn't used to support multiple sound cards, as far as i remember. or maybe i just didn't HAVE two soundcards and wasn't interested enough to buy another
;)
for anyone that wants to check it out, go here: virtual turntables
it is a neat program. just didn't seem to compare to a pair of technics when i looked at it before. i still think the interface can't compare to being able to move a record any way you want, though. i'm not talking about scratching here, just effective beatmatching and.. all that other hard to verbalize stuff that djs do.
then again.. i don't mean this snottily at all, but "mobile djs" just don't do that much with the music. it's not the same as being a "rave dj", which is the perspective i'm coming from. maybe vtt's interface is just dandy for mobile peeps.

Just another example of how cones are evil.

How disappointing.I saw the headline for this article and thought it would be about my beloved PS/2. You let me down. I'll have to head on over to the the Microchannel pornography website and solace myself with the pictures of beautiful adapter/As. Ahh.... I need to scan in my ActionMedia II Display Adapter/A (with capture option daughtercard) and send it over to Peter.
Cheers,
Joshua (a member of the MCA mafia)
