Just a naive question: no matter how thin each deadly blade is, would not you essentially have something two inches thick made of steel or nickle? How could this much metal be lighter than paper?
From what I can find out, Normal paper weighs 75 lb / cubic foot; steel 490 lb/cf, and nickel 541 lb/cf.
What am I missing here?

Original TheoryCurrently I am siding with the original theory, since it is quite logical and has so far been supported with much data and information.
However this new concept is interesting, but leaves a lot of questions. How are these "catastrophic electrical discharges" occur and funciton? Why and how do they stars to supernova?
I attampted to conduct some research on the subject, but only found concepts on ESD (Electrostatic Discharges), which pretty much is static. I did find out that it is capable of more than just shocking and irritating you. Though possibly relating to this subject, it is not what I seek.

The main reason for developing fusion is that deuterium is virtually unlimited, unlike fossil and fission fuels.
There is about 0.5 ppm (5E-7 fraction) of hydrogen in the atmosphere, and 200 ppm of that 0.5 ppm is deuterium, so there is 100 ppt (1E-10 fraction) of deuterium in the atmosphere.
There is 1.7 ppm (1.7E-6 fraction) of methane in the atmosphere. In principle we could just extract that and burn it as fuel. It's a potent greenhouse gas in its own right, so the CO2 produced by burning it might actually contribute less greenhouse effect than does the methane being extracted, so the overall cycle could be greenhouse neutral to negative.
There is so much atmosphere (total mass 5.1E18 kg) that there is a lot of both methane and deuterium
in it: 9 trillion kg of methane, and 510 million kg of deuterium. Extracting either one, though, would be extremely difficult to do without using more energy than the resulting product would yield. And in the case of deuterium, you still have to isotopically separate the deuterium from the regular hydrogen after extracting the hydrogen.
There is also lots of deuterium in the oceans, of course.

Selenium is actually a p-type semiconductor, and is also useful in photovoltaic and photoconductive applications. I'm no materials scientist, but if one could cheaply extract the selenium from the plants (say, by burning them & processing the ash) after they've detoxed the soil, it might prove to be a boon to various high-technology businesses.

Other options
The Defend Air people don't give any data I can find on the dB-vs-MHz effectiveness of their product, but plenty of competitive technologies do. I wish they did, because I want to line my laundry room with the stuff! The washing machine makes a terrible racket in my radio.
There's Hospital Quality shielding done with aluminum foil, and more serious shielding of both E and H fields for MRI machines. I won't even go into the RF-sealed doors...
If you're concerned about magnetic fields, then Mu Metal is the stuff. Just don't bend any of the Hydrogen-annealed variety. You can get sheet and tape in small quantifies from these folks, who by the way also offer "Personal Protection Devices (silver-impregnated fiber baseball caps, not tinfoil hats, please) ...and their own copper paint which is startlingly more expensive than the DefendAir product...they even have the same window film that keeps out the sun, but also makes your cell phone not work.
For sealing over the gaps, don't forget 3M 1181 Copper Tape, which features electrically-conducting adhesive, but only specifies 80dB isolation at 30MHz-1GHz.
But my favorite so far is Metal Foam, which reminds me of the almost weightless foamed glass Aerogel that was a announced a few years ago... Foamed aluminum is available commercially in 2x2ft sheets from from Austria, Alulight. They claim 40dB isolation in the 2Ghz range and over 100dB to 140dB in the 10Mhz-1GHz range, plus excellent sound isolation, structural, and fire safety properties. What's not to like? Anybody know where the get this stuff in the US? Reade seems out of my range, but I'll ask them.

Re:Zero-G manufacturing?There are some manufacturing companies around that will foam practically anything: Beryllium, Titanium... A random Googling turned up these guys.
One company I heard of was pretty sure they could foam diamond, but were looking for a customer to foot the bill.
