Scientific Linux benchmarks?
According to this page the scientific benchmark offers a mixed result. Although ScienceMark seems to be well-designed it's Windows-only and closed source. I'd be interested to see some open, Linux-oriented benchmarks. I wrote a very simple one called obench.m which uses Octave running off a live Quantian 0.7.9.1 CD, it might be interesting to get some numbers from it (I have timed some Pentiums, Athlons and Opterons).

Re:Will Cinelerra CVS update to work off of 2.0?I develop a bit for LiVES. I do very simple video editing as a hobby. Here's a sample:

All encodes use Theora/Vorbis/Ogg.

Petrified grits
Obviously, people will be able to download pictures of Natalie (Hershlag) Portman's petrified grits much more quickly now.
Or Denise Richards' petrified grits.
Or Gwyneth Paltrow's petrified grits (the blinds don't match the carpet, btw).
Or Nicole Kidman's petrified grits.
Or Cameron Diaz' petrified grits.
Or Angelina Jolie's petrified grits. Or her other petrified grits. Still more grits.
Thank goodness that cable companies are helping out!

ogg to mp3
A couple of months ago I wrote a brief guide of how I got various ogg tools working on my system. In fact, I posted it here, but since it wasn't a troll I got modded down
:) Anyway, for those interested, try: http://www.reimeika.ca/marco/data_vgai/mp3toogg.tx t So far I've only converted my mp3 files to ogg, but I realize this is not the way to go. I'll be getting a 40Gb drive next week to re-rip my collection to ogg. In the guide I mention above, however, there is a link to a song ripped in three different ways (wav -> mp3, mp3 -> ogg, and wav -> ogg).
