I've worked with the X68000 and they are/were very cool and quite advanced for their time. Trying to compare different platforms is ultimately pointless so I won't say it was more advanced than the Amiga or Atari ST but it certainly was a peer and shouldn't be overlooked.

Debian does, of course, but if you need RPM, SUSE does it (even 64-bit). Third-party providers (mostly inidividals) ship it for Fedora, such as Matsuura Takanori; but you probably know that :) - it might still help some old hand wanting to toy with the examples once the voting is over...
I wish some of the extensions (MegaPovRay, anyone) would be as quick to install on a large number of machines...

Sure, Sony made two models around that time, the PS-F5 and the PS-F9 (marketed as the Flamingo). They're "holy grails" today so you'll be lucky to find one cheap. Here's a pic.

The design seems to be pretty nice. It reminds me a LOT of the PC Engine LT version released by NEC circa 1991, here are a few pics:

It was actually a pretty neat little unit, playing the same games as the home sytem, and I believe you could also watch TV on it! I often mourn the loss of the PC Engine/TG16 systems, they were ahead of their time. They 'got it right' before people could really appreciate (afford?) it.. backlit screens, cross-hardware games, cd-rom storage, multifunction hardware, Bonk!

I wonder if Nintendo studied the LT or if they just took a page from more recent flip-up cell phone design when working on this one.
