Re:Model Rockets
Well when I was a kid all the local hobby stores stopped carrying them, they might now, I'd say I've outgrown the smaller ones for sure.
I bought a few copies of High Powered Rocketry and was going to get back into it, but after 9/11 I didn't want to be percieved as any sort of threat to anyone, the unfounded fear in others is understandable.
I saw on your site this very issue is still being dealt with here.
Really, this is a cool hobby, more slashdotters should get involved and maybe lend a hand in stopping these draconian laws from even being thought of.
I'd hate to one day see that the chance to build and launch rockets into the skies is gone, especially for young kids.
I learned to write one of my first "real" programs on a vic-20 with datasette just to figure out how high in the sky they went. -
Model Rockets
I'm not sure model rockets were taken off the shelves for being dangerous
... rather than just lack of sales. Kids just want to play nintendo these days instead of getting out and flying rockets. Toys-r-us & Wal-mart still carry model rocket motors and smaller rockets.
Check out my rocket page for some examples of current model rockets. -
Re:In this economy
Way to slashdot your own site
:-)
Don't click on my site -
Re:NASA? What about the FAA?
I'm gonna have to call BS on the taking it to a military base - our local club has a regular clearance up to 11,500 ft above ground level - that's about 3.5km without any inspections at military bases.

Re:Rocket Guy
FAR 101 (Federal aviation regulations) regulates what can be launched in the world of unmanned rockets - I'm not really sure what section covers manned rockets as I'm not crazy enough to sit on anything I build - I believe there is now a separate commercial space launch agency which deals with any kind of private space shot. Our local club routinely has clearance up to 11,500 feet above ground level and higher clearances are given to launches in more remote areas.

Ha Ha Ha HA !!!!
Bennet is a joke - he's no closer to space than I am - he's just launching rockets on commercially available model rocket motors. Check out my website for more models
:-)
Seriously this guy is most famous for getting UK model rocket enthusiasts banned from launching on government land because he torched acres of firing range a few years ago. -
Re:We threw gasoline of the fire, and now...well..
No I prefer just one J Motor actually
.....
Rockets with big motors -
No .... Buy more E engines
Seriously Estes has E Engines back in production
:-)
Or check out my web site for a whole bunch of people who have forgotten more about rockets than Steve Bennett Knows.
