Re:Don't take yours in.
Well, except that in this case it increases fuel efficiency because they run leaner in order to get better MPG which also reduces CO2, Hydrocarbon, and CO emissions at the cost of increasing NOx emissions. The more I look into it, it seems that the problem is that these engines run too efficiently to achieve high enough temperatures to activate the catalyst to scrub the NOx. So the EPA is basically asking to burn off more fuel in order to heat up the catalyst. I'm sure that would reduce NOx emission as a ratio with fuel burned, but I'm not sure that the absolute level of NOx emission would be lower in that mode. Either way, calculating emissions per gallon instead of per mile seems dubious to me. http://www.rx8club.com/attachm...

Re:Hyperbole
It's not like I can Google "nschubach bought ? on Tuesday" and get a full report.
Why don't you try that query yourself? I did. Congratulations with your purchase of '04 Silver RX8 - G/T Package - 6 Spd. MT in June 2004. It was probably nice weather then in Schaumburg, IL. Is there anything else you'd like to announce to the whole world? Google doesn't need to do a thing here, other than to collect what people willingly reveal about themselves.
With regard to my own username, it is short and common (as in RFC 783). Besides, I don't reuse usernames. The only way one can associate my posts across multiple sites is by writing style.
I'm sure paranoid and delusional style won't identify you on the internet. You're safe.

Re:Easy peasy
They don't make any products you can purchase? Really?

In order for any boycott to be effective you would have to boycott them for a full quarter - not do what some people did when they "bocotted" Mobil back in the day by delaying filling up by a few days.
Hell, I haven't knowingly purchased any BP products ever since the lawsuits redefined what was allowed to be called "synthetic motor oil" - their business practices have always been unethical. (I have filled up at Arco but I didn't know they were BP)

Re:So did the jury ...
Here's a one-time $100,000 speeding ticket, and one country now has a standard $10,000 ticket for anyone eager to earn it. That same hoser nation issued a $288,500 beauty for speeding in a 40kph zone. Although I am not in favor of such extreme fines (despite my father being struck in a 40kph zone in said police state, ultimately dying), they are the Big Brother future.
One consolation. By the time any of us are being asked to pay such an enormous fine we will all be implanted with an RFID chip that will automatically suck the funds from us as we earn them so we won't even have to lift a finger from our game paddle to write a check! -
Re:Rotary
Remember you have to contrast the performance of the Engine. A 1987 (13B) Mazda RX7's fuel efficiency was better than a 6 Cylinder Nissan, yet the Mazda produced more horsepower.
I think you're wrong about the horsepower. A quick google search doesn't turn up the specs, but I remember that the rotary in a 1987 RX-7 produced 146hp, and the engine in a same year Nissan 300Z produced 160hp. From the manual for my old '86 RX-7 (RIP 198,722 miles), the EPA esimated mileage was 17/24mpg (city/highway), and I routinely got 17mpg city. Don't know the mileage for the Nissan. Here think about it like this, a 1985 Corvette had 230hp, with the new tuned port V8, and yet the new Mazda RX8 has better horsepower and better fuel efficiency.
Isn't a bit unfair to compare an engine that's 20 years older? Why don't you compare the rotary in the 2006 RX-8, which produces 238 hp (according to Edmunds) to the 2006 base Corvette, which (according to Edmunds) produces 400hp. The RX-8 weighs 3029lbs and returns 18/24 mpg while the Corvette weighs 3179 lbs and returns 18/26 mpg. Don't get me wrong; I miss my RX-7 and love the rotary, but it is not more fuel efficient (in terms of hp produced) than a piston engine, probably due to the inefficient shape of the combustion chamber. Also, if you spend any amount of time on an RX-7 group, you'll realize that passing smog tests is a major concern. In fact, according to early threads on RX-8 Club.com, the claimed hp of the RENESIS was reduced to 238 from 250 due to changes in the exhaust to make emissions meet US standards. -

Re:Why is the RX8 on this list?
Yeah, sorry, I mixed up my numbers. It's hard to keep track when the HP figure is constantly dropping (250 -> 247 -> 238) Link And it doesn't even really make that much power, just excuses.
And I said it was less than 160 because I didn't recall the exact figure. 160 isn't very flattering for something that wants to consider itself a sportscar.
And that fact still is that the car is slow (relative to other sports cars), and everybody knows it. I still ask, why is that car on that list?
