Re:Heh
I knew it would be a giant failure solely based on the fact that it was a console space sim.
No Man's Sky isn't a space sim. You spend most of your time on planetary surfaces, not in your ship cockpit. Not only that, but ship combat isn't common.
Space sim has evolved beyond the capacity of stagnant console controllers, and the whole fanbase is housed on the PC. Flight Stick + Keyboard is the way to go.
They have? I'm not so sure of that, considering that THIS is a PSone controller:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
The PS2 has these:
https://s.hswstatic.com/gif/ps...Which you can plug this Hori Flight Stick 2 into:
http://www.ign.com/articles/20...
You might be thinking that it looks like a Saitek x45...that's because it IS a rebadged Saitek x45.
The PS3 has these USB ports:
https://assets.pcmag.com/media...
Which you can plug this into:
http://www.thrustmaster.com/en...
or this for that matter:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod-...
And play this (disc only):
https://store.playstation.com/...
or this:
https://store.playstation.com/...
You might be thinking that the latter reminds you of War Thunder...that's because it IS basically the test for War Thunder, and releasing it paid for War Thunder's development. So console owners were basically the Alpha Testers for War Thunder.
PS4's have these:
ps://media.psu.com/media/articles/image/ps4_usb_hard_drive.png
Which you can plug this into:
http://www.thrustmaster.com/en...
And play:
Elite Dangerous
https://store.playstation.com/...or this:
Eve Valkyrie Warzone
https://store.playstation.com/...or this:
War Thunder
https://store.playstation.com/...with the latter you could also plug in this:
http://www.thrustmaster.com/en...
or this:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod-...
or any other HOTAS. Yes, there are PS4 owners playing War Thunder with Warthogs and Rhino's.

Re:X-Box controller
nothing beats the Gravis GamePad Pro (USB)

Re:I enjoy at least 1 Belkin product
Even there Belkin sucks. Saitek makes a better keypad controller in the Cyborg Command Unit. I have the Pro Gamer Command Unit, which predates this one, but the Cyborg is just a recolour to match the rest of their Cyborg line of input devices.
-
How is this different from cockpit multi-function
displays, or MFDs?
Or, any number of input devices that have so much information overloading the user that the use is offered a user-defined toggle? Hell, for that matter, just imagine all the Saitek and Thrustmaster:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joystick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saitek
And, Saitek keyboards:
And, what about computer BIOS and software overlays? How far different is Sony that they can get a patent? Is it *just* for game controllers, and only a FINITE set of functions? Otherwise, they should not have this patent protection in countries where joysticks exist in aircraft, games, bulldozers/shovel loaders, and so on, especially in micro-surgery operating suites.
(Disclaimer: Though I like Saitek products, I don't have any of their stock/shares...)

Re:"Dude. Wait... What?"
As far as I know, the Xbox 360 style controllers that are either labelled for use on the Xbox 360 console or on the PC are identical, except the "PC version" comes with a driver CD.
I used to use a standard Xbox controller on my PC by rewiring it with a USB cable and using the XBCD. Unfortunately I discovered the XBCD interfered with certain things like Audiosurf, causing it to run poorly, so I have replaced the controller with a nicer gamepad made by Saitek.

Re:Flight SimulatorsCheck out the saitek joysticks if you're upset about the right-hand-centric world. My experience with their stuff has been great, I had one of their earlier "cyborg" sticks and really appreciated that I could switch around the pieces to fit my hand more comfortably.
Just a thought, since I've no experience with being limited in such a way, but would a keyboard be a decent "controller?" I would think having the keys custom mappable would solve the controller issue. Then again, my console experience is seriously limited, so I'm not sure how much of a viable solution that is.

Similar devices have been attempted...Saitek made the P8000 a while back to do the same thing. The only difference is that its more or less a simple programmable membrane interface that passes through the keyboard port. The user designs a layout, complete with icons and keybindings, and then prints it out. The printout has a barcode that gets scanned which programs the device to activate certain keypresses for each selection.
The P8000 is essentially a programmable computer keyboard that allows you to assign any command to any button - making it a truly unique peripheral that enables users to play games, surf the net and use application software with much greater ease. This device can be used on your lap or desktop - which makes all your web-browsing, office and gaming needs incredibly easy and lots more fun.
I've used these things, and it IS really good for RTS's and for Flightsims. And, it is really bad for FPS's, as can be assumed.
