Re:That's the magic of the RIGHT ringtoneNo, the stupid part is USING ringtones. No one wants to hear anyone else's crappy taste in music. My ringtone is music that's so crappy I'm confident nobody wants to hear it. Personally, I can't stand it - I answer the phone to get rid of it. That's what a ring tone should be: a stimulus to answer the phone, not to sit and listen to.
I thus whole-heartedly recommend the third movement of PDQ Bach's Pervertimento for bagpipes, bicycle bell and balloon supported by a nice string quartet (on disk 2 of http://www.schickele.com/shoppe/pdqrec/dreaded.htm).
P.S. Yes, I do own the CDs as well. -
Re:Brian Eno & Koan
You sure that wasn't PDQ Bach?

Re:Great Show
Well, right now, I'm listening to a recording of Schickle Mix that my computer made last night. Once again, Saturday night at 10.00 isn't the best time for interesting classical music, but Sunday afternoon is.
I mean, I'm a member of my local NPR station, and they actually provide podcasts of their self-produced shows - so it stands to reason that I should be able to make my own for the remainder. -
Re:Games are to entertain...
I can't remember if it was done under Schickele's name or PDQ Bach, but I heard about a piece of music called "Table music for Trumpet and Flute". There was one sheet placed on a table between the two musicians, and they read it like they would normally. Pretty cool musical hack once thought about.
I've been a PDQ fan since high school, almost 15 years ago. :) The thing that actually sticks out in my mind is a piece of album art on one of the J Cards (I believe it was from PDQ Bach on the air) where there was a staff of music with the words "Allamande Left" under it. The next measure had been completely wrecked, much like a bad car accident. Peter did always have quite the sense of humor.

Professor Schickele did it first
Frankly, I prefer Professor Peter Schickele's New Horizons in Music Appreciation as a way of distributing performance notes during a concert.

Re:Bach humbug!
Ok, I'll bite. For those who are familiar with P. D. Q. Bach, but don't know the story behind him, he's really a guy named Peter Schickele. You can also read about P. D. Q. Bach's "bio."
His music is even funnier than his bio. I still remember the first time I saw one of his works and his years were listed as (1807-1742?). Hah! -
