Re:Pedal misapplication and copycat crime
Yes, he did show reasonable causal relationship.

I do no give a shit about Audi history, and bringing it up is a non sequitur.
"the brakes still will stop the vehicle if operating properly"
not, they won't. IN many vehicles, they will prevent the car from starting to roll, but once you're doing 55+ they will not stop the car if the throttle is open.

Re:Pointing out driver error
Other manufactures already have this tech at the consumer vehicle.

"A pretty good approximation of 100% would be my guess. "
nope. errors were found. Does it apply to every case? can't say.
The code in Toyota's systems are bad.http://www.sddt.com/files/Book...

" The NHTSA has looked into this twice without finding ANY evidence of mechanical or electrical malfunction."
Note: that doesn't include software." I work in the industry."
Based on the fact you don't seem to know anything relevant about the industry, I am just going to assume that means you pump gas. -

Re: Russian Programmer's are Brilliant!
Some cases were due to people pressing the wrong pedals. But some were also due to a the software screwing up - http://www.sddt.com/Commentary...

Re:Not surprising
Does it?
http://www.sddt.com/files/BARR...From an embedded engineering stand point, Toyota code is horrifying.
The term 'Spaghetti code' should be no where near embedded systems. The throttle angle function was considered 'Unmaintainable'

Re:Not surprising
So embedded systems exerts looking at the code and explaining that a single flipped bit and cause a whole tier of systems to fail sin't good enough because it doesn't fit you bias?
http://www.sddt.com/files/BARR...
tl;dr: You're an idiot.

Re:Not surprising
No, it wasn't, at least in all cases. There were definite computer control problems that led to the computer getting stuck in a mode where it had the throttle applied, and ignored the brake, shut-off, and gear-selector inputs because since logically the throttle was applied, those other inputs must be erroneous.

Re:Lemarr!
It doesn't happen until about halfway through the game, but when Walter Bennet -- er, no, whatever the doctor's name is... calls the headcrab "Hedy Lamarr" it was a surprise mainly because the name was familiar. Did a litle looking into the name since all I knew was that Hedy Lamarr was some kind of Hollywod actress.
She was a lot more than that. She deserves to be listed among such names as Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper. This article gives some background on her. In short, she helped come up with a innovative torpedo guidance system that the military ended up using 20 years later.
A codicil to the story that isn't mentioned is that a few years ago, she was formally awarded the royalties from her patent, even though the patent had expired when the military began using the idea. -
Sad
"unfortunately would mean booting Windows"
This quote examplifies exactly what is wrong with you Linux geeks. How are you going to convince people to adopt Linux by spending all your time bashing Windows? It would be anagalous to Juno spending all its time to bash AOL, and look where it has gotten them! -
Re:Absolutely wrong.
I'm not sure where you get this crap about the 1992 election but here's one site I found that contradicts your "evidence." Clinton had a definite majority and again.
Facts my friend, not bullshit. -
Did anyone notice or point out......that Governor Rowland is Republican?
I bring this up not because I support the party, but because if he had been in favor of it, the word "Republican" would have preceded his name in every news story about it.
I generally don't think of Slashdot as left-leaning, although it's impossible to characterize the site and its members by any specific political tag. If a Republican legislature had come up with this bill, then it would have been used as an indictment of the party as a whole. Likewise, a Democratic governor who opposed it would have been championed as a hero and representative of his party as a whole. But since he's a Republican who did something intelligent, his party affiliation is left out of most stories (including the one linked above), and he's considered just an individual who made a good decision (which is really the case, I'm just pointing out the usual media portrayals with the other examples).
Brief info on his political history:
http://www.sddt.com/features/convention/speakers/D N96_08_14_1ao.htmlRather than get into any sort of partisan arguing back and forth, let's remember this for future discussions. Responsible AND Irresponsible politicians can be found on either side of the political debate.
(Also, I'm well aware of the fact that New England Republicans are generally not lumped into the same fire-and-brimstone category as Southern Republicans.)
