Let's pay attention 2 OS' (Linux 2.6x vs. Win7)
Microsoft ENTIRE "business development suite": (only 5 KNOWN unpatched security vulnerabilities, vs. 18 in the Linux KERNEL ONLY (which is, after all, ONLY A FRACTION OF WHAT'S POSSIBLE IN AN ENTIRE LINUX DISTRO))

THAT's 3.5++x LESS THAN IS PRESENT ON THE LINUX 2.6x KERNEL ALONE! See below...
(Toss on the rest of what goes into a Linux distro? That # goes "up, Up, UP & AWAY...", bigime, "increasing that lead, that Linux has", lol, in more unpatched known security bugs present that is (a dubious honor/win, lol, to say the least!))

Compare a "*NIX/Open SORES" OS in Linux's "latest/greatest"?:

THAT? Again - That's rougly 3.5++x as many as Windows 7 has that are unpatched
Also, AGAIN:
THAT'S ONLY THE LINUX KERNEL MIND YOU, not the entire 'gamut/array' of what actually comes in a Linux distro (such as the attendant GUI, Windows managers, browsers, etc. that ship in distros too that have bugs, and yes, THEY DO), THAT ADDS EVEN MORE BUGS that COMPOUNDS THAT # EVEN MORE!
APK
P.S.=> So, so much for "Windows is less secure than Linux" stuff you see around here on
/., eh?(It gets even WORSE for 'Linuxdom' when you toss on ANDROID (yes, it's a LINUX variant too), because it's being shredded on the security-front lately, unfortunately)
BOTTOM-LINE:
What this all comes down to, is all the "Pro-*NIX propoganda straight outta pravda" practically doesn't stand up very well against concrete, verifiable & visible facts now, does it? Nope... apk

PLUS, I'd wager there aren't EASY workarounds for them (or as many as MS has shown above)...
AGAIN KEEP IN MIND/VERY IMPORTANT - THAT'S ONLY THE LINUX KERNEL MIND YOU, not the entire 'gamut/array' of what actually comes in a Linux distro (such as the attendant GUI, Windows managers, browsers, etc. that ship in distros too that have bugs, and yes, THEY DO), THAT ADDS EVEN MORE BUGS that COMPOUNDS THAT # EVEN MORE!
So, so much for "Windows is less secure than Linux" stuff you see around here on
/., eh?(It gets even WORSE for 'Linuxdom' when you toss on ANDROID (yes, it's a LINUX variant too), because it's being shredded on the security-front lately, unfortunately - so your use of OTHER DEVICES, here on the SECURITY FRONT? Only harms your case, in the case of security...)
BOTTOM-LINE:
What this all comes down to, is all the "Pro-*NIX propoganda straight outta pravda" practically doesn't stand up very well against concrete, verifiable & visible facts now, does it? Nope... & I don't *THINK* even Apple

Chrome 10.x needs a security patch... apk
http://secunia.com/advisories/product/34532/?task=advisories
(LOL, & just as I was about to post this reply? I noticed your registered username here... Hello "King Billy" (what I call Mr. Gates, out of respect, not "ribbing")).
Doubt you're he but... there you are!
APK
P.S.=> Just a "heads-up"/"FYI" thing! See - I like it & use it, myself (though a big Opera fan here), & I actually started to use it (Chromium actually, not GOOGLE Chrome) around 2-3 months ago.
I'll say 2 things about Chromium:
---
1.) It is F A S T
2.) It is very "compatible" with most websites (better than Opera here, though I don't like admitting it)
---
AND, it WAS "100% bulletproof & bugfree" on the 'security-front' as far as patching KNOWN security vulnerabilities, up until 2-3 days ago too (but, as you can see, above? Yet another bug has surfaced).
I am just letting you know is all... The Google team's a BIT slower on this one than their usual, because the last one Chrome had? They patched it, same day it came out... apk
-
Submit that to Opera (now, some "tit 4 tat")
I don't use MacOS X here @ home, @ least regularly, as I never saw the point in spending 3x as much as one does on a PC, for the same relative functionality.
Now, per my subject line:
I am sure that IF you submit that to Opera? They'll fix it as fast as is possible...
(They're the "underdog" after all, & need to work hard(er) to get places on PC's (they do great on phones & consoles though))...
On that note?
Ever TRY Safari (even 5.x which had a bug in it so they issued 5) on Windows?? I have... I set it up for my niece, she likes MacOS X since she uses it in school & likes it over Windows even (WOMEN!)... lol!
Anyhow - Not a "fun" experience... very, Very, VERY SLOW! I mean noticeably, not just via benchmarks!
(Everyone's got "room to grow/improve" it seems, is what I am saying here is all on this note)
Don't get me wrong either: I have to admit, I like the MacOS X interface... simply put? It's BEAUTIFUL!
APK
P.S.=> Lastly - I also hope the Apple folks re-compile Safari for Windows, and some of their OTHER apps (iirc, ITunes & 1 other, might be safari, might not be) that are ported to Windows, because they made mistakes in them that are REMOTELY EXPLOITABLE by using API calls that HAD problems before 2 days ago (bug in Visual Studio that was patched this "patch tuesday") -> http://secunia.com/advisories/product/30853/?task=advisories
-
Agreed, 110% - Opera, rocks... apk
"i love opera. that's one scrappy browser. they always seem to have the most exotic features that leave your mind excited rather than eye-rolling... opera is a really good browser, you should try it (no i'm not affiliated with them in any way). i believe its hot in nordic countries (which makes sense, since its from there) and eastern europe" - by circletimessquare (444983) on Thursday April 14, @09:11AM (#35816850) Homepage
Good way to put it, not exactly how I would have, but your point's definitely there, and agreed upon (from myself @ least). It's also HUGE in the "mobile browser" world too, & on consoles etc./et al as well.
Vs. the competition? Well - Opera's got:
---
1.) Features other browsers either outright COPIED (ala "imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery")
2.) Native/Built-in features that other browsers have to get 3rd party "add-ons" for to equal functionality Opera has built-in, natively, minus the overheads of browser add-ons...
3.) PLUS, for years, Opera's been called "the fastest browser on the planet", & it still holds true (though Chrome gives it a run for its money nowadays/lately, & IE + FF are no slouches lately either)
4.) Lastly, Opera's been CONSISTENTLY, over time, the browser that shows nearly always 0 unpatched known vulnerabilities on the security end of things... more consistently than ALL the others (IE/FF/Chrome)!
---
And, there you are...
APK
P.S.=> ALSO, that last part, on security, has held true, & over a longer period than Opera's competition!
(Though for the past month now? ALL of the "major webbrowsers" showed 0 vulnerabilities @ SECUNIA.COM, except Chrome turned up another 2 days ago though -> http://secunia.com/advisories/product/34532/?task=advisories ))
