Birds of a feather. Security Absurdity!
They sell Windows AV. They have a lot in common with people offering "free iPods". Stunts like this serve two objectives: They advertise McAffee and they give the illusion that user actions make a difference. The false conclusion we are supposed to draw is that you can somehow be spam free if only you do this or that instead of this and that. This is well discussed in the Security Absurdity articles. That attitude is required for both Windows and AV vendors to survive but people are not nearly as dumb as M$ needs them to be.

News Flash: Windows is still a risk.
Windows is still a complete security failure. It is not possible to secure with any kind of reasonable precautions. Nor can it be secured through strenuous efforts. It is not free, so you can't fix what you think is broken.

Yes, It's a Joke.
The author does not like getting hate mail for violating the M$ party line. His response was to parody M$ double think.. It only causes distress in people who take M$ security seriously in the first place.
Things are a lot easier when you quit blaming the user and prescribing crazy rules of safety and simply move to an OS without the same kind of problems. The sooner people do this the sooner botnets will die.

M$ numbers.
As explained here, the 66% number is from M$. Vint Cerf and Michael Dell say 20 to 40%.
Sooner or later the consensus opinion will match my estimate of 100%. Articles like this one are a good sign of that. Windoze is a booby trap and anyone who uses it long enough will get nailed, even the "smart users" who never click on anything and hide behind "firewalls" that are actually embedded gnu/linux.
I guess it's late and I'm not thinking straight.
No, you know exactly what you are doing but it's not working.

A great writeup about the "boiling frog" problem we have. Don't miss the followup article either!

Re:He's an idiot
The PC as a plug and play appliance has been the gold standard for users for over twenty-five years.
The problem with the current state of computer security and spam can be summed up with the fact that this one very, horribly false statement is believed by the majority of people. No Windows system since the advent of common internet connections has ever been save as plug and play. I believe the average time for a computer that is just plugged in and connected to the internet to become a spam bot is down to four minutes, faster than you can download the patches from Windows Update (especially with all the extra DRM junk you have to go through now).
Read this article and if you still feel that computers are a plug and play appliance in more than image sell me some of the drug that you are using.
