Good for them
I read a lot of people thinking that people should be using their cycles for something "better" like Protein folding, etc, etc.
But, as a person who often spends a lot of his time using CPU cycles for blasting critters in games, I say, why the hell not? I'm hardly saving the world 24 hours a day anyway, why does picking my distributed project have to save the world too?
I *liked* running SETI back in '98. That god awful screen saver that slowed down your cycles was great for getting other people interested in it when they walked by.
At least this company is handing out $$$ for a possible incentive. If only companies selling my address and demographic data could send me $$$ they're making off of me...

Re:Man....NET isn't anything more than Visual Studio 7.0
It continues the development of COM, COM+, ASP, etc.
We received a full beta version yesterday. It contains VB, VC++, C#, VFP, SQL2000, and more. As you may know, VB was rewritten to match the common library with VC++, C# was built for that too. VFP was not.
I know you're just spewing forth shit from your mouth, but lets just pretend that you were confused by all the other beta versions that were out there previously. THOSE should have been labeled Alpha. But we know that alpha releases aren't as cool sounding as the Beta Band.
There is no "Waiting 5 years" for a
.NET to be installed. There is no .NET as you speak of it, oh why argue, you don't know what you're speaking of.Yes, we can blame marketing and media that
.NET is something more, but it is simply the next iterative step of MTS & COM framework that has been working successfully for years. The toos that Microsoft has are simply being geared towards working in this foundation more smoothly.I get paid a nickel for every email I read!

School TripOur school class just took a trip to the Mesa 3D Graphics Library. It was just breath taking! It took all day for us to get through the whole place. If you're ever in the neigborhood, I highly recommend it.

Re:Disturbing, but hardly surprisingI hope they make a movie of it, like the Dungeons & Dragons fiasco...Then all our moms can be worried again.
It's amazing out drunken frat boys can date rape women without getting in trouble, but some kids get tackled for playing a computer game.

Beer ChessOne of the best drinking games we play is Beer Chess.
First, you need a big board. Ours was constructed to hold ice (to keep your beer cold). Next, all the pieces have to be a beer or bottle of some kind. Each move you make, you sip from that beer. If you lose a piece, you have to drink the whole thing.
We used to shotglasses filled with Jack Daniels as Pawns, but we never seemed to finish the game for some reason...so we switched to those little 8 oz. Budweiser cans.
For Rooks, we use the big fat Foster Cans.
We have a few other favorites, but it doesn't matter too much since we made paper "hats" to put on the bottles to distinguish who is who.Not for the weak of liver...
