Re:Oh the Irony.....
And neither do most Eastern countries, or Southern countries, or Northern countries, etc. Yet many of them have murder rates far higher than the US.
Oh great so the US does not suck compared to a large number of dictatorships and failing states? I compared the US to states which are democracies and have at least a comparable GDP per capita.
And you have a mass shooting almost every day
Only by a measure which includes 'shootings' in which nobody was killed, and the vast majority is gang violence in the inner city.
Have a look at http://shootingtracker.com/wik...
And no it makes no difference whether Jihad Joe, Racist Randolf or Narco Nick kills people. The people are terrified by that.
31,537 people die from gun violence every year in the USA. Based on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... you have 10.5 people shot per 100 000 people a year. In Germany that is 1.24, in Spain 0.62, in the Netherlands 0.46. And you think you do not have a problem? Really)
BTW: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... that we have far less people in prison. So western Europe looks quite save to me.
With rape it is 27.3 (2010) in the USA, in France 16.2 (2009) in Germany 9.4 (2010) in Spain 3.4 (2010). It is only higher in Sweden 63.5. However, they have very different laws what rape is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...And we do not have a refugee crisis. We have a problem in distributing refugees fairly in Europe. However, I am absolutely sure that Germany and Sweden are able to handle it. Not so sure about Greece, but maybe the EU will figure out a way to work together again (which is the real issue). Also we have a problem with fascist and nationalist movements in eastern Europe, e.g., Hungary and Poland. Still it does not make things better for you when we fail on our own problems. You will still have your gun problem.

Re: Oh the Irony.....
Well, if you remove inner city violence attributed to gangs and only count "mass shootings" that the news cares about, you're right. But the FBI (I think it's the FBI) defines a mass shooting as 4 people shot in one incident. According to Mass Shooting Tracker the last one *was* San Bernardo or Savannah, but we *do* have 353 mass shooting this year (And 21 days left to go), which is enough to say "every day" and not be completely incorrect in common usage of the phrase.

Because the shooter was an American? The description "homegrown" is accurate, as the shooter was an American. Born and bred. Not a foreign activist who entered here. His wife may be a different story though.
Apparently being American doesn't stop people from radicalising in whichever direction. In fact we seem to have a steady supply of Americans who have radicalised, but the majority have done so towards conservatism, gun ownership advocacy, anti-abortionism (last week), and racism (throughout the year).
This particular fellow seems to have radicalised in a different direction. And when he became disgruntled at a work-organised party, he drove home, got his trusty rifle out of his second-amendment umbrella stand, and became an "active shooter".
For a dataset of mass shootings, see: http://shootingtracker.com/wik... The vast majority of casualties in 2015 (about 400) come from ordinary "I just felt like it" shootings. Funny how people go to town when the shooter turns out to be a muslim.

Re:A good start
You want to know how to start combatting this? Stop all Islamic immigration, and begin the process of de-Islamizing the US. Yeah, I'm well aware that I will sound extreme to most of you but I've become convinced, looking at the history of Islam, that Islam can NEVER peacefully co-exist with other cultures. All it has ever done is attack its neighbours and it continues to do so today. It will never be tamed or reformed. It can only be stopped.
Wow, Robert Dear, Allen Lawrence Scarsella, Nathan Gustavsson, Daniel Macey, Joseph Backman, and Timothy McVeigh was all Muslim? The things one can learn on the Internet.
Here's a list of all the mass shootings in this country for this year, to date. Oh, and your understanding of history is about as uninformed as anything I have come across. By your standards, the United States must be the Great Satan given the amount of people we have killed during the wars we have been directly and indirectly involved in over the last century.
Please get back to us when you have figured out which other generalized groups to deport. Until that time most of the rest of us will continue to point out how you ARE the problem, not part of the solution. -
Re:more guns needed
By that table, there were 5 mass shootings in all of Europe in 2015.
According to this table, there were 353 in the USA in 2015.
Europe has over 500 million people, the USA has a bit over 300 million.
I really don't think you should even try to compare. How your statistics arrives at a frequency of 0.088 (which would mean about 28 attacks in 2015) is a complete mystery to me. I think they picked their data selectively to prove a point. Like everyone does, of course. But when you have two sources speaking about the same thing and one say 28 and the other says 353, then you need to look more deeply than a few tables.

Re:more guns needed
Um, no:

Nice try, though. -
Re:Gun-free zone?
This talking point always comes up - except, oddly enough, when the shooting is in a place that isn't a gun-free zone. Which happens pretty much every freakin' day .

Re: Whats wrong with US society
What mass shootings are you talking about the few that hit national news and are talked about over and over for decades, that one at the high school in Colorado happened 16 years ago?
You can't possibly think that Columbine is the only 'mass shooting' in the last two decades. Here's a helpful list of last year's multiple-victim shootings. There's 283 entries. Now, most of those are not "quiet white boy flips his lid and goes on shooting spree," but to just pretend that the number of shooting victims is inconseqential, or that there's nothing to be done about ubiquitous shootings is callous and mean.
According to the CDC influenza and pneumonia are a bigger killer than guns and nearly half of gun deaths are suicide.
Maybe you've seen the annual drive to get people to have flu shots in order to reduce the deaths by flu and pneumonia. What are we doing to reduce involuntary gun deaths? Police? They only show up after the fact.
