From the Constitution (linked above): To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries;
One hundred years is "limited Times". It may be absurd, but as I understand it (though IANAL), it's not unconstitutional. Congress has passed a number of unconstitutional laws in the few years that I've been paying attention that the Supreme Court has ignored. Why would they care about this? Going further back, Congress has probably passed thousands of unconstitutional laws. Just about everything FDR did was unconstitutional. Welfare, WPA, CCC. None of those powers are "delegated to the United States by the Constitution" [1].
Congress and the President have been usurping powers little by little for 200 years.
If Washington and Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton could come back, the first thing they'd notice would be that the federal government now routinely assumes thousands of powers never assigned to it -- powers never granted, never delegated, never enumerated.

I did not realize this. One of the URLS form the search you posted goes into detail about the no taxation for DC. It says that the crime situation would be better and the DC area would become a Mecca for people to live. It would help the center of government and its supporting community to focus on the larger issues. I don't even live there but I agree that with the URLS that a DC citizen shouldn't pay income tax. Does the district get subsidies for highways, schools etc? Who mandated that DC must pay income taxes?

Various kooks
I have a relative who is really into the Bigfoot scene. The Bigfoot believers are quite committed. They make a lot of mistakes because of that, though. What is really interesting to me is how so many of the same thought errors get made in radically different areas of human belief.
Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World is an interesting investigation of the entire phenomenon.
It is a terribly complex mental exercise to absorb all of the information in modern life and make intelligent decisions. The fact is that there are far too many claims to investigate for anybody to examine all of them with the necessary care. So we have to rely on the consensus of experts to make decisions. And the organizations necessary for consensus have the same flaws as all human hierarchal bodies.
Here are some of the various brands of kooky ideas that I have come across:
The AIDS Myth The medical analysis is surprisingly deep. A lot of qualified people have weighed in on this idea.
Carbohydrates not calories. They claim that our genes are still adapting to the modern high-carbohydrate diet, and that is why so many of us are so fat. (Enter Atkins.)
Democracy is not good government
Global Warming. Discussed on Slashdot a number of times
Shakespeare did not write Shakespeare Joe Sobran thinks that the Earl of Oxford wrote everything attributed to Shakespeare of Stratford on Avon.
Race and IQ Probably true, but kooky nonetheless.
Multiregional Evolution You can find most of Wolpoff's papers that are cited here somewhere online. I recommend "Bottlenecks and Pleistocene Human Evolution" and "Modern Human Ancestry at the Peripheries: A Test of the Replacement Theory." Wolpoff is kooky because there are very few anthropoligists left who will side with the Multiregional theory over the Out of Africa theory. (Wolpoff technically supports an Out of Africa theory, but that is how everyone refers to the debate.)
And here is one that I will actually advocate: Bohmian Mechanics It is about as kooky as you can get for a physicist, but I am convinced that it beats QM on the merits. -

By bombing the hell out of foreign countries? If we've gone into the business of "liberating" countries from brutal dictators, we could have started a little closer to home. Fidel Castro has been pulling the same crap for nearly half a century, 50 miles off of our coast. I haven't seen an invasion plan for Cuba yet.
And as far as creating a spirit of pro-Americanism is concerned, if you haven't noticed, we've managed to piss off most of the planet.
Men, women and children getting slaughtered by the thousands every year, and you don't care?
What do you think we just did in Iraq? We just killed over 7000 people there.
And who said the government isn't concentrating on domestic policy?
Bush ran on a platform that included reforming Social Security, reducing the size, scope, cost and intrusiveness of government, and a "humbler foreign policy".
Government spending has increased (and that includes discretionary spending, not just non-discretionary spending), I don't see Social Security reform anywhere in sight. For a reduction of intrusiveness of government we get the Patriot Act, and don't get me started on the "humbler foreign policy".
Any conservative with sense ought to be screaming his head off. The last I heard, conservatives stood for limited, constitutional government and a non-interventionist foreign policy.
We can't walk and chew gum at the same time?
Apparently not.
I don't mean to be rude, but you're believing all of the crap that comes from the media.
So where are you getting your information? Are you privy to sources the rest of us aren't?
Perhaps you need to take a break from the neocon punks at the National Review and spend some time getting familiar with some real conservative philosophers and scholars.
