    Well...

    There are a few companies doing just that. The prices are much more than 299 though. It would be cheaper to build it yourself, or even to find a friendly linux geek who will do it for kicks for you, or for a little bit of money.

    You'd still have to put out for the parts.

    I'm purchasing my own bits and pieces to build a MythTV box little by little. It does take some time, but I think it'll be worth it in the end.

    I wonder if the name has any significance aside from them thinking "Oh cool, lets name it Nehemiah, oooh yeah sounds 1334! Nehemiah it is!"

    From what I can see, this $100 PC won't include anything beyond the computer itself. You'll need to provide your own monitor and power source (or purchase one from them).

    The SolarPC website also lists their specs for their other computers along with the price so maybe you can deduce from there what the $100 model might contain.

    This quote from the home page is interesting, too:
    • "A no cost license to manufacture SolarPC designs is available for educational and charitable groups participating in the Global Education Link project. Please contact SolarPC for additional information."
    FWIW, a review was posted touting their computer as a great war driving machine.

    I have had great success with the VIA EPIA line of single board computers. They are plenty fast enough for the vast majority of todays computing needs, even servers. Firewall, mail server, file server, you name it. For the home or small or even medium sized office these things are great. I have some from Solar PC. They are serving as cheap and simple workstations for word processing and web browsing as well as firewalls and virus/spam filter appliances.

    A Linux based POS will run on this. A WinCE system will only run on something that is less powerful and more expensive.
