Not the first time
MS have invented symbolic links before.

The evidence is no longer on MS's website put you can find it here http://www.spinnwebe.com/contests/innovate/8.php -
Re:Not parody
In the case of the DFC, the guy who ran it on Spinnwebe actually talked to Bil Keene and decided to take it down rather than fight to keep it up. Just goes to show you lawyers aren't always the answer.

Much the same thing here... Spinnwebe(scroll past the "older" bit)

Lazy and inept
It's pretty obvious that Microsoft is to lazy and inept to get any use out of the security community. Not only is it correct in principle for security gurus to post exploit concepts, but it is better in practice.
Take (see this coming?) linux for example. The linux/open source community pays attention to proof-of-concept experiments published by the security community. Hence, Linux and linux applications tend to be extremely secure. Security patches for Debian tend to be released only days after the exploit is made public. Apache has maintained its tight security record.
On the other hand, Microsoft security is notoriusly terrible. Outlook express has been the springboard for the last 2^n email worms. Most windows installations can be hacked with the press of a button. IIS is... well, I'm sure you all know about IIS. The common theme here is that every single exploit used against Microsoft products has been well documented and demonstrated by the security community well before they became major security issues. Microsoft ignores the security community until customers start griping about K1dd33z hacking their software. Instead, they whine about how the security community is causing the problem.
The moral of the story? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, and if you do, don't sue him for biting your nose off! -
Re:Be sure to check out the Nori too!Ah, so you hang out at It's A Dysfunctional Life also, eh?

On a similar note...... don't forget the Dysfunctional Family Circus (Which seems to be gone now...? wtf? lawsuit?) and the Red Meat Construction Set

SpinnWebe
This reminds me a lot of It's A Dysfunctional Life and the late, lamented Dysfuntional Family Circus off of SpinnWebe.
Those have been (were) running for several years now, it seems. Check it out, if you've never been there. Funny site. -

Contest: Innovate the Innovative InnovationHuh, 566 comments. Nobody's ever going to see this, but...
After having read this story, and then the press release, and then saying "huh?", I decided to make a contest out of this.
It's at <http://www.spinnwebe.com/spinn/mscon test.shtml>. You have to create your own innovative Microsoft innovation. The prize is a latte mug.
My ideas were "ability to make folder names different colors" and "can make a DVD spin counter-clockwise".

Who It Is!
Finally, all the pimps and hustlers have a whois of their own at Who it is!
-
WhoItIs: web utility for getting whois quicklyHm, well, I'm late to this conversation, and probably no one will read it at this point, but thought I'd toss this in anyway:
http://www.spinnwebe.com/whoitis/
A utility I wrote over the weekend to get whois info quickly. Yeah, you can script it yourself, I know, but I'm sure people are still typing -h whois.networksolutions.com like I was for a while. You can use the page until you get around to writing the script yourself.
Although mine also has the neato feature of linking site names and contact handles, which I've already found pretty handy.

Re:Worst comic ever
We haven't realized it's the worst comic ever because even if it wasn't a damn good accomplishment, and did suck, we still live in a universe with Family Circus, Garfield, and Beetle Bailey. And there's just no competing with Bil Keane.

And you get:
"Break the contraction apart into it is component words..."

The Dysfunctional Family Circus
He's taken down the page. But, you can get to the actual cartoons with a different URL. Try this. There are navigation icons on the page.
No one can escape the /. effect. Bwa ha ha ha! -
The Dysfunctional Family Circus
Oh, dear. Poor SpinnWebe is going to get clobbered hard by the Slashdot Effect. His server has never had a very large pipe, and I fear either he or his provider are going to fall over hard once the hits start swarming in...
Nevertheless, I've been a follower of it for years, and I think it's worth bookmarking The Dysfunctional Family Circus, as well as its companion site, It's A Dysfunctional Life, which is exactly like the DFC, except it uses real-life photos. This one and this one are especially hilarious examples of what you can expect.

Mere Red Zone material
Don't even bother. This is the real DFC: The Dysfunctional Family Circus
Inferior imitations can just stay wher they are! :) -
The reviews on Amazon........
Amazon almost never screens user-written reviews, unless their attention is drawn to them by an irate publisher.
Case in point: A lot of bogus (and hilarious) reviews of the Family Circus anthology Daddy's Cap is On Backwards stayed on Amazon for weeks, most of them written by the denizens of the Dysfunctional Family Circus. Keane's publisher finally got wind of it (after its existence was published in a newspaper), and they have since been pulled down.
So, yeah, you can write anything you want and get it posted on Amazon as a review. They do effectively no checking.

Wrong.
But the Dysfunctional Family Circus is hilarious....
