Square Enix Officially Unveils Final Fantasy XII
squareamp writes "According to 1UP's in-person report from the Tokyo unveiling, Square Enix has officially taken the wraps off of the latest Final Fantasy game - Final Fantasy XII. There are new images available of our main characters: Vaan (1), Vaan (2), Ashe (1), Ashe (2) - who are both described as Humes (taking a page from the race system of Final Fantasy XI: Online)." 1UP's coverage of the event also reveals "there won't be any branching-path system in place", possibly making the game more freeform, which could be "a large (and welcome) step away from the very linear scenario design of past Final Fantasies." The creators also indicated the game is 70 percent done, and is currently "due to be released in Japan in summer 2004." -

Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children Revealed
poshul the hyper puppy writes "Is Square Enix planning on doing a follow up to its best-selling game of all time? Nearing press time at this year's Tokyo Game Show 2003 - it appears a scan from the upcoming V-Jump magazine has given away Square's surprise by revealing Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Leaked by Japanese site Quiter the details say it takes two years after the original, should be released on some form of DVD media (looks like this could this be a movie, not a game?), and involves our legendary hero Cloud. So either bust out Babelfish to read the details directly at Quiter or get the news from SquareAMP: Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children." Update: 09/25 18:54 GMT by S : IGN PS2 are pretty sure that this is a direct-to-DVD CG movie, as the poster suggested above, not a videogame. -

Tokyo Game Show Titles Trailed
Thanks to Gamers.com for their massive list of all the games showing at the Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off on September 26th in Japan. The list "...omits whatever games that companies are saving as surprises for the show", including the widely-rumored Kingdom Hearts 2 from Square Enix, but highlights include Astro Boy and the Altered Beast remake from Sega, the new Front Mission titles from Square Enix, the wacky Mojib Ribbon and mech-heavy Chain Dive from Sony, as well as Capcom's wholesale licensing of notable Western titles, adding the Sony-created Mark Of Kri, The Getaway, and War Of The Monsters to their already-released Grand Theft Auto. -
Square To Merge With Enix
SquareAMP writes "The makers of the 'Final Fantasy' video game series will be merging with the makers of the 'Dragon Quest' series to produce an RPG powerhouse to be re-named Enix Square Co. Reuters has all the details of the planned merger, that includes the dismantling of Square's assets and absorption into Enix. For Square fanboys fearing that this may ruin their favorite RPG company, Square's current CEO Yoichi Wada will be running the combined entity."
