As far as your opinion, see subject-line & this: Films = the FINEST artform & portrayal of the human condition imo (books are a BIT better though, you paint your own screens & don't have the director's filtering either + instead you use your OWN perceptions).
They elevate the human condition (in a world often full of shit) even if only for a moment, & inspire also...
They have also set those records I noted - MANY disagree with you, so "argue with the numbers" as they're against you, MILLIONS to your trolling 1...

You don't have to DO that
I'm not SURE what companies' compiler you used, but in Object Pascal you don't have to do that (& though it's been AGES since I used TP 7.0/Borland Pascal 7.1 wihich oddly enough I am looking @ the box as I write you since it sits on my compiler boxes shelf here).
I don't recall having to do THAT which you speak of either, & yes, as far back as Turbo Pascal 4 which iirc, was the 1st one I used in Academia in fact right up to 7 around 1992 iirc?)!
HOWEVER- you can globally IF you like & as you describe , but inside each function or procedure you can do locally scoped variables (just so you know)... & WHO would still use Pascal? I do, for one (of many out there). Here's a tiny example of what you can produce with it (around 50k lines of code) in even 64-bit targetting code:

Another replier to you notes a COOL FEATURE of Pascal imo - being able to "nest" functions inside procs OR functions (I do it quite a lot, for scope control basically & for easily hunting down where the function is more quickly too).
I saw a report, in of ALL places, "Visual Basic Programmer's Journal" Sept./Oct. 1997 issue titled "Inside the VB 5 Compiler" a competing trade rag no less, that showed DELPHI (Object Pascal 7.1 engine) absolutely "knocking the chocolate" out of BOTH MSVC++ &/or VB by HUGE MARGINS in performance (doubling or tripling even MSVC++ in Math & String work tests, & face it - EVERY PROGRAM DOES THOSE essentially).
They tried to "downplay it" but the graphs told the REAL story... numbers don't lie, & competing trade language magazine or not, they had to tell it how it is.

That is for GOOD reason:
Ever since I started "p.r.'ing" it on
(They're my source in the security community for hosts data, & hosting provider for my program too recommending it as "the best of its kind" @ the top of the download link above no less)
They LITERALLY HAD TO MOVE TO AMAZON - why?
Again - HUGE DEMAND (not only for my program, but for the custom hosts file data it hauls in from their servers too - that "sent them over the edge" on their ordinarly hosting provider, so off to AMAZON it's been for about 1.5++ yrs. now, only having had "issues" ONCE in that timeframe (vs. nigh constant ones before it)).
* Personally, for THOSE purposes @ least, AMAZON does one hell of a job...

P.S.=> Good security vs. DDoS too: AMAZON & MICROSOFT have such POWERFUL networking infrastructure & "overload detection" bandwidth-wise they literally CAN'T BE DDoS'd... Due to messagepassing, RAM, & CPU overuse
I asked AdBlock's Wladimir Palant a question by email if "Almost All Ads Blocked" do these things (he emailed 1st stating "hosts are a shitty solution"):

1.) Block malware/malscripted sites (not just adbanners with bad code)
2.) Block out Known sites-servers/hosts-domains that are known to serve up malware (especially "fastflux" types, the predominant design that uses host-domain names vs. IP addresses (far easier to 'kill' in the latter is why)).
3.) Block Bogus DNS servers malware makers use (via fastflux + rogue DNS servers).
4.) Block Botnet C&C servers.
5.) Block known PHISHERS.
6.) Block TRACKERS.
7.) Block SPAMMERS.
8.) Get you back speed/bandwidth you paid for by blocking adbanners + hardcoding your favorite sites (faster than remote DNS server resolution).
9.) Add reliability (vs. downed or misdirect/poisoned DNS servers - since most are NOT patched vs. the Kaminsky flaw).
10.) Add "anonymity" (to an extent, vs. DNS request logs).
11.) The ability to bypass DNSBL's (DNS block lists you may not agree with).
12.) Truly UNIVERSAL PROTECTION (since any OS, even on smartphones, usually has a BSD derived IP stack & hosts 99.999% of the time).
