Re: NO!
>>And as for an "os which doesn't run anything" - steam and heaps of fun and modern games run just fine on my Gentoo box
>LOL, sure they do. Enjoy your dozen half-finished open source games and a handful of indie games.Check by yourself: https://steamdb.info/linux/
now i will play some Total War, Thrones of Britannia, Mad Max or Rise of the Thomb Raider in vulkan (where windows version can only use directx) -
Not for me but maybe for you.
30% my collection has Linux ports and that excludes most of the AAA titles, you can check on steamdb.info there is a calculator which shows your account value and other things.
The Linux filter is dead last in the list and you have to scroll to get to it - rather telling unfortunately.
It's definitely getting better but not enough to ditch Windows 7. I guess it depends on whether what you want to play/buy is listed there.
There are also some non-Steam things that work with Wine like I play Hearthstone which runs well under battle.net (Blizzard) on my Mint Thinkpad without issues.

Looks like a relaunch
I already have 'Atari: 80 Classic Games in One!' in my Steam library, which appears to have been removed from the Steam store 6 months ago. https://steamdb.info/app/2790/

Re:Can't wait to see the performance comparisons
I refer you to the list of games that run on SteamOS.
Please direct your attention in particular to Civilization V, which is the only game on that 1600+ item list I currently care about.

Re:is this really still an OS anymore?
"1. Steam has more than 200 titles that run just fine in Linux. "
Understate much? It had that many games in 2013. There are now 1653 Linux compatible games on Steam according to:

Re:is this really still an OS anymore?
"1. But I use windows for gaming! Steam has more than 200 titles that run just fine in Linux. Popular indie games and mainstream shoot-em-ups alike. they even offer steam machines as a platform if youd rather not fuss with Ubuntu."
I think your numbers are a bit out of date there, it's now 1652.

Hopefully with Vulkan supplementing OpenGL the increase in Linux games will continue to accelerate. -
Re:1600
I suggest you peruse the actual lists once in a while:
Although "big-studio" games are largely absent, an awful lot of top-end indie games are there. Indie doesn't always mean shite in a bundle, by the way.
Killing Floor, X3, Civ, Bioshock, Trine and all kinds of other games are well worth the money.
And there are definitely more of them lately, and bigger titles are getting more attention since Valve started their Linux port.

Re:Goodbye Windows
These people are doing a nice work tracking the games with potential and/or incomplete Linux support. So far, 183 games and apps will likely be (or already is) ported.
