An Australian Perspective
My school, after losing their T1 connection to the demise of One.Tel, recently installed a high-speed link from Telstra. This I have no problem with. What I have a problem with is that they have also installed the proxy-based filter WebSense (as in doesn't have any) to censor their access.
This means I can't access my email as the parent website (Subdimension) is filtered by WebSense as a "Proxy Avoidance System" because the website has an "anonymizer" feature on the site. I am forced to browsing "forbidden" websites (Slashdot is not one of them, thankfully) through Babelfish.
Needless to say that if this legislation ever catches on in Australia (let's hope it doesn't), it will make my efforts to "bypass" this "feature" illegal. This legislation obviously doesn't come from a mandate from the people. It's a result of technically ignorant politicians with a so-called moral conscience try to run our lives their way.

Non voters are just lazy and nothing more
Ok this is the second time I have seen this the first being on subdimension on their politics forum about who will vote for whom.
People who don't vote *may* have this kind of reasoning about how they should act but that is like comparing prisoneers being in jail because they wanted to act like Henry David Thoreau and defy an unjust government. Simply put most people don't vote because they might have to leave their couch and stop watching "The $treet" or drink beer and get stoned.
Face facts people like Nader are far too extreme for the majority of Americans and really don't have any moderate views. People who want to get rid of government really should look at what laize-faire type tactics got us in the years 1880-1920 or so and then tell me that less government is a good thing.
If anyone can tell me why all the BS that companies and the like did to America and the absolutely bad social problems that resulted were good for the average Joe and his family I'll give you a cookie (choclate chip). -
"K5 Troll" Script ; "Slashtroll" no longer exists(posting this here because nobody would see it otherwise)
Apparently this script was used to spam K5, and the guy that created it has a web site, although it offers no explanation on WHY they did this. Maybe having the script will help you block it. The address of the script was posted as another anonymous message in this thread.
He claims he was inspired by Slashtroll, a similar script for trolling Slashdot. The author of Slashtroll (zk65) removed the program after seeing what happened to K5, and posted a message here.

Re:Boy you people like living
People don't like drug laws and such and there have been many, many, many attempts to override them through similar attempts at civil disobedience; however all of these have failed
You forgot the 21st Amendment. There's you first failed assertion.
(then, from a later post in the thread)
I would rather have my pride/honor/respect/and freedom than play DVDs on unsupported OSs.
If you are prevented from doing what you will in the privacy of your own home, specifically as it regards watching a movie you've paid to be able to watch, haven't you actually lost (some of) your freedom? If you are unwilling to stand up for something you believe is important, haven't you relinquished your pride and honor? This would appear to be another failed assertion.
Based on these comments holding up so poorly to scrutiny, what exactly are you trying to say? That you don't mind being [Valenti|Gates|Eisner|CEOx]'s bitch because it doesn't hurt that much?
Corporations wage war on the people all the time. In this case the weapon they've chosen is knowledge/information and I'd like to think in that arena I (and my fellow
/.ers, etc) am much more well-armed than Mr. Valenti and his celluloid minions and worldwide rent-a-cops. Yeah, it may still come down to money, but I can at least hope that a jury of my peers can still see (and still cares about) truth and freedom through the lawyer-induced fog of mis-/dis-information being slung about by the MPAA.Just in case, slashdot-terminal, why don't you send 65 bucks to the EFF and we can all laugh about how frivolous this was a year from now?

moderate this guy down!
Please, folks... the user Slashdot Terminal seems like quite a wacko... when I read comments that have a score of 2 I hope to avoid nonsense like this!
