It is all in how you tell itAn interesting article, but I draw away from it a far different conclusion than what the superficial
/. summary suggests. The key is, as the examples in the article explicitly show, how the story is told (and in what forum.)Apparently lots of people knew about the toxic environment at Uber. Why, then, did Susan Fowler's blog post end up being the one that set off the dynamite?
"It almost sounds naive, but it's clear she knows what's happening, and how in this high stakes game of poker, she has to be the coolest player at the table, lest she, like so many women before her, be labeled some hysteric. Her post is a masterpiece of tone and rhetorical control, and it had to be. No resorting to snark or irony or any number of tricks of the clever; she bore her own witness, and no better witness could an attorney have imagined."

Re:butterfly erection
NOw...let's see if anyone will hire her now, after all of this....
According to her blog post that she wrote in February, she left Uber in December and started work at Stripe in January.
Right, she posted the Blog post in question in February -- that is, she got her current job *before* "all of this" happened.
The question of "if anyone will hire her now, after all of this" is still open, and her continued employment at Stripe doesn't change that. (Getting fired for writing a muck-raking blog post is very different from simply having your resume passed over during the hiring process because of it.)

According to her blog post that she wrote in February, she left Uber in December and started work at Stripe in January. When a push came to a shove at Uber, "I had a new job offer in my hands less than a week later."
She brought down a 'toxic' CEO, ok....but now, is she a bit 'toxic' too?
The men who work at Uber should probably be viewed as "toxic" by future employers, as the bad boy mentality drives out good people.

She's out on her own.
It looks as though she's not going to be applying for jobs anytime soon.
I'm represented by Verve and InkWell. And it looks like she's doing the public speaking circuit.
But, I have to agree with the GP, she's not going be hired by anyone ever. The HR software used these days will catch it and her application would be deleted. If she actually got a response, it'd be the lame "You don't have the skills." excuse.

Re: The long, slow downfall has begun
First day on your new team, your boss tells you by office chat that he is in an open relationship with his boyfriend, and that he is having a hard time time finding partners, hint hint. You take screenshots to human resources, but they decline to take action because your boss is a "high performer" and it is his "first offense". Does that sound like "pretty much every corporation"? Go read this blog if you want to learn more. Although you may question the veracity of the account, since none of it has been or will ever be proven in a court of law, keep in mind that this women is taking a huge professional risk publishing this story her work experience at Uber. She could be sued for libel if any of it is wrong.
