E-book Libraries
Don't forget that there are not just libraries of book metadata online, there are libraries of complete books:
- Project Gutenberg
- Newton's Library
- Bartleby II
- Electronic Text Center at UVA Library
- Tech Books for Free
- etc.
While these libraries are by no means as extensive as something like Amazon, it's nice having the full text of the books themselves.

Re:Stallman was right up to this point ...What surprises me most, really, is that I have never come across a repository of free textbooks available in some standard electronic form - say PDF.
You mean like this, or this? Those are just the two I happen to have bookmarked. I'm pretty sure there're a few more out there. Admittedly, not everything they link to is in PDF format, but a lot of it is.

Gift horse
I'd hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but my first look at a page was this grafic of the parts of a PC which is (obviously) out of date. It doens't even include an optical drive, or a mouse for that matter.
