TekTonic
I've been using TekTonic.net (My Affil link here) for about 3 years with no problems for several machines, and have recommended them to a number of friends, who've all had 0 issues. $20 month, 384mb RAM, 30GB Disk and 500GB/month.
When I have needed support, whatever is broken has been fixed within an hour, with a reply explaining what happened. Don't see that often these days.

I've been happy with...
John Companies http://www.johncompanies.com/ and Tektonic http://www.tektonic.net/ for unmanaged VPS, ServInt http://www.servint.net/ for managed VPS and NetAccess http://www.nac.net/ for colo.

Re:That really depends.
If you're looking to spend less, virtual private servers are the way to go. I've used two hosts and have been pretty impressed with both.
Slicehost will give you a virtual box (root access, choice of distro) with decent specs for about $20/month.
TekTonic.net (whom I found through www.unixshell.com) gives you an unmanaged virtual host for $15/month.
Again, I've used both and have been very happy with the services. Bandwidth hasn't been an issue, uptime and performance have been great. -
While we're adverising:
http://www.tektonic.net has better prices (and you get way more ram, disk, etc) for their VPS packages than rimuhosting.com, remember folks, competition = good.

Re:2 comments
I'm using TekTonic.net. Same VPS implementation. Looks like a slightly better rate than Linode. I'm paying $15/mo. + $1 setup for what looks to be equivalent to the Linode64 plan at $20/mo + $10 setup.
I'm very happy with the customer support so far from TekTonic and distro selection is excellent. -
Re:Uhm...I've just recently moved from UML to Virtuozzo VPS and the speed increase was dramatic given the same hardware specs.
Here's a post from my current VPS provider that does a great job of explaning all 3.

Re:thanx for the free advertising
When I stepped up from shared hosting to a virtual plan I looked at two providers.
Tecktonic.net and JVDS.com. Ended up going with tektonic, and have been pretty happy with them. Support is top-notch and they use Virtuozzo instead UML. -
Re:Check out their network stats page
In case anyone is too lazy, here is a direct link to Tektonic's network stats page: http://www.tektonic.net/network.htm -
Get a whole (virtual) server
Get an inexpensive UML (User-Mode-Linux) virtual server and it's just like having a whole server online.
I use Tektonic. Their cheapest plan is only $15/month. For more money you get larger slices of the CPU and RAM. There are several other good ones as well.
(oh, and FP).

Re:Look up Argante
Yep, I got a very nice virtual server from Tektonic for $15 a month. Very nice because you can then resell that to people for designing and hosting webpages, email, etc. Best part is having root, so you can admin the machine yourself. If you don't need a full server, this makes a lot of sense.
