Re:Has to be said...
I am not an eye-candy man myself, but Ubuntu is SADLY lacking a decent theme manager. I am tired of the brown and want something with character.

Re:KDE 4 is unfinished. Officially.
KDE 4 is unfinished. It says everywhere in the official sources. Since KDE 2 the
.5 releases basically where the stable targets. It's only with 4 that with the .0 release they didn't care about finish at all, and thus provides Über-suckage. 4.5 will be the stable finished 4 release. No news here. What's the big fat hairy deal? How about the fact that distributions all ship KDE 4 by default? If it's not done, don't release it.
Fedora 10: KDE 4.1.2
OpenSUSE 11.1: 4.1
Kubuntu 8.10: 4.1(The only exception is Debian, shipping 3.something. Of course, that matches the Debian reputation of shipping everything slow.)

Re:Some other interesting Sun stuff
Speaking of Sun, here are some screenshots of OpenSolaris. If you like Desktop Unix it's one to check out...
In other words, you are completely off-topic
:P. -
Impressive
This might not be a big news, but if you do try out the distro then you will know how impressive it is. I am very excited about the final release and am planning on replacing my Ubuntu 8.04 installation on my laptop to Mandriva 2009, as I find Kubuntu Remix 8.04 a bit buggy (this might changed with 8.10 release). The theme for Mandriva 2009 just looks very good and really give out a very good impression.

Awesome news
Well going to have take the LiveCD for a test drive and see how Fedora 9 is. I also found out the Linux Mint 5.0 Beta 1 is out (here are the screen shots of that system) which I also plan on downloading and testing out.

Screenshots
Screenshots are important for superficial people like me
:)
I like the widget and window theme, but the kicker replacement at the bottom looks pretty tacky. It was the same in beta, and I'd hoped they'd change it for release, but it seems like they're sticking with it. -
Re:KDE Four Live CD
I prefer KDE 3.x as-is. Unless I can make it LOOK the same.
those screenshots look pretty customized. these ones, which i assume are the default, look much more like KDE3. -
Symphony OS Anyone?
This guy is probably doing something similar. Symphony OS.

Re:Ubuntu
Debian has now way better installer than Ubuntu (for instance, there are options for creating a degraded RAID array and for inserting a LUKS encryption layer at any level). And if you boot it with "installgui", you get this:

Ok, here goes nothing
At the risk of starting a Gnome vs KDE war, For everyone complaining about how ugly the default Ubuntu theme is in Edgy, why not look at the Kubuntu eyecandy?

Re:Prices
And Oracle didn't made a good job copying RHEL either...
From the screenshots I've looked at, they couldn't even manage to get the icons right: http://www.thecodingstudio.com/opensource/linux/sc reenshots/scaled/Oracle%20Enterprise%20Linux%20R4- U4/36.gif
Also... why ship X11 at all? This Oracle Enterprize Linux should be focused at the server-side, shipping with a pre-installed Oracle DB, an Java EJB Container, and a nice web-based console to administrate all that.
It would be a much smarter move to partner with RH and a hardware vendor to push an Oracle Appliance to the market. Plug it, configure some basic parameters via web interface, and start using! This would add something to Oracle, simplicity, something that they currently lack, and that could make a difference aggainst the competing DB products.
I don't know if Oracle actually has the expertise to sell support, and mantain, a linux distribution. Their first attempt at putting one thogether is patetic. -
