Simulated doomsday?
It would be pretty cool to simulate enviromental doomsday scenarios such as the one seen in the movie The Day after Tomorrow.

Post Hoc Fallacy, Anybody?
That's my take on the matter. This is a prime example of a "Post Hoc" logical fallacy, that is, saying A caused B soley because B happened after A. (If this summer had been the coldest in 500 years somewhere in the world, I'm sure we could say global warming melted some ice caps or something, ala The Day After Tomorrow)
I mean, yeah, reducing pollution is a good thing. Go for it. But the fact is, as you said, we don't know enough about the climate to accurately predict the week's weather, much less how a single Honda getting 27MPG vs one getting only 25 impacts the macro-global climate as a whole!
One more rant before I sit down. According to the initial post this -- whateveritis caused the hottest day Europe has seen in "the last 500 years". So... what happened 500 years ago? Call it a hunch, but I don't think it was a bunch of frilly old tights-wearin' Elizabethans in SUV's. -
Re:Today Ashcroft
And The day after tomorrow Bush will sign Kyoto protocol!

This is just hype...
If you read the article you'll see that these scientists are really saying they don't know WTF is going on, and they're using their ignorance to stir up the folks at Greenpeace. No doubt to raise more funding for their research.
And considering the DVD for The Day After Tomorrow comes out tomorrow I really have to question whether this is anything more than a well placed promotion.
Either way, global warming or not, call me when we're ready to start the looting. -
Re:The 'Day After Tommorrow'
Could it be that those more concerned about the risks have taken its release as a good opportunity for sounding their views (since people will be more receptive?)
YES: This is the movie's website, with the banner "The day after tomorrow, where will you be?": www.thedayaftertomorrow.com, while this site is setup by Greenpeace, and highlights current issues and politics, under the banner "The day is today, what will you do?": www.thedayaftertomorrow.org.
Smart marketing.

Re:Some questionsAnd doesn't it bother you that Michael Moore is personally getting very, very rich out of September 11th?
Why should it be a sin to make money from political commentary, be it focused on Sept 11th, May 3rd, or any of the other 365 days of the year? Many celebrities (news and enterntainment) make a good living from stories based on momentous world events, Moore has a right to do the same.

Another chance for Hollywood to redeem itselfIt looks like Hollywood will soon have another chance to redeem its portrayal of science in movies.
The trailer for The Day After Tomorrow looks great, and certainly has a strong message about global warming in the film (just don't try to visit their website over a modem!) Starts May 28th.
