Re:could be interesting
Indefinite detention qualifies as torture. In civilized countries.
Indefinite detention is the accepted norm in military conflicts - you can be held until the conflict is over. So, I'm afriad you are quite wrong there. It is also used in many countries to keep very dangerous prisoners behind bars.
And to your other post, you stupid troll, I did not specify a country and you're cherrypicking. That is trolling.
We've already seen that Australia uses it, but so do Japan, UK, US, Sweden (and Sweden), Norway, and many other countries one generally considers part of the civilized world. Looks like you don't quite have this right.
In light of unprovoked invasion of these countries (instead of KSA),
The invasion of Afghanistan was greatly provoked - - 9/11 - perhaps you've heard of it? Afghanistan hosted Al Qaida even to the point of integrating it into the government. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had nothing to do with 9/'11 as a government. So, you don't have this right.
the evidence of double-tap attacks on reporters and civilians,
On innocent civilians or reporters? Not so much.
executions by drone and whatever they call "collateral damage" is all that is required to make that statement valid.
The attacks by drones are attacks, not executions. You've been wrong in the particulars, and in general.
You're THE idiot. . . . you stupid troll . . . you're cherrypicking. That is trolling. . . Last, but not least, FOAD.
I guess you aren't a fan of civil discourse.

Re:Obligated to point out another security concern
Heck, anything military personnel are issued, in terms of clothing, has to be manufactured in the USA. That's why military personnel buy their own running shoes instead of having them issued. As only New Balance makes their running shoes in the USA anymore, issuing sneakers would effectively give a no-bid contract to New Balance.*

Re:Am I getting old?
How does anyone justify going to a Penny Arcade convention? Why hasn't everyone joined the boycott? What kind of people go there? For the three people in the world who don't know, instead of apologizing to fans offended by their rape joke, Penny Arcade creators Mike Krahulik (left) and Jerry Holkins mocked the outrage with a Dickwolves T-shirt. The Dickwolves incident has transformed Penny Arcade from a welcoming, inclusive public commons to a place with a constituency â" however small â" that is hostile to outsiders. Such a con should, theoretically, endeavor to include rape survivors, as well as other marginalized groups, from non-white gamers to disabled gamers to genderqueer gamers.
Gee, dunno, I just went and here's what I saw:
1) Cross dressing cosplayers
2) A transgender individual midway through her sex change (I say her as that seems to be her targeted gender), again cosplaying a female character
3) Several panels about LBTG issues in gaming
4) A panel I attended, about sexuality in games, included a lesbian panel member and several LBTG people in the audience that felt free to stand up and ask questions openly (I saw no heckling or other negative behavior). The sexuality examples in games were not restricted to discussion of "straight sex".PAX is not a big money making event for PA, if it was the tickets wouldn't be 65 bucks for the whole weekend. You're acting damn shrill and annoying and you're alienating people who'd otherwise probably lend you a hand in pushing for positive change. It's, of course, up to you how you want to act, I'm just telling you I think you're wrong about PAX and the way you're pushing for change is unlikely to convert anyone but the already converted.

Boycott? Yeah, uh, no, not going to boycott a funny webcomic because a bunch of prats got upset. I believe the proper vernacular is "Deal with it, nerd."
Pretty successful boycott, too, since It's apparently been going on for a year and this is the first I've ever heard of it.
Seriously, the second the words "rape culture" come out one has to physically restrain the eyes to prevent harming oneself from rolling them too far, too fast. What an asinine, retarded phrase.
Other things that completely destroy your credibility: "Porno Culture" and "American Patriarchy," or calling it "fE-Mail" or intentionally misspelling "Women" (as "Womyn" or what have you).

Tasers
Same thing with Tasers. Tasers are statistically harmless, and a hell of a lot less harmless than a number of other ways of subduing a suspect, including lethal means. Whether Tasers are overused is a different question altogether, but being tased is a much better alternative than being forcibly subdued by any number of other means.
Wrong, I would rather be beaten, maced or shot with rubber bullets than tasered as they leave evidience of police brutality. Tasers don't, cops use them whenever they feel like it because they don't leave evidence. For example:
"The Louisville Courier-Journal this year reported that Louisville metro police have Tasered some 70 mentally ill people in the last two years, zapped 15 people already in handcuffs, shot a 15-year-old in the penis, and even zonked a brain-damaged paraplegic who had fallen out of his wheelchair." (emphasis mine).
Now remembering how little evidience tasering leaves, think about how many more people may have been tasered.

Re:new ad campaign ineffective, misses point
Dear PC users,
"Smug"? Really? What sort of self-important douchebag actually gets offended by John Hodgman's goofball portrayal of PC culture? My guess is, exactly the same sort of douchebag who doesn't belong on the Mac anyway. What you fail to understand is that these commercials are targeted towards and meant to be appreciated by latent Mac users, not hardcore dweebs like you.
Love with bleach and ammonia,
Mac users -
Re:I'm glad he's gone
Here, I found this interview with John Hodgman, in which he drops this telling quote: "I myself am a Mac user. I bought the very first Mac, or convinced my father to buy it, in 1984. I used it through high school and college; it was the first computer I used outside of college, then I went though a brief period of exile during my corporate years as a professional literary agent, where I was forced to use a PC . . . . Mac has always gotten the design and the interface down pat. They just know it. PC's efforts to emulate this, and its constant failing, and its self-satisfied arrogance about it being the most used platform in the world, all of that made it very easy to craft a character who, while he is a boob, and often concerned about how he comes off, at his core really feels bad for the Mac. Is really so delusional to believe he's much cooler than the Mac. The whole reason they're standing in that white room is because he's trying to help the Mac out."
