The LA Times claims to have tracked down this blog by digging up this guy's email address from a 2006 publication. Turns out it's actually a 2007 publication (with a submission date in 2006) according to Mandiant, titled "HTTP Session Hijacking on Switch LAN and Its Countermeasures". I still don't know why the LA Times only reported his last name, since his first name is clearly visible in the paper, which is freely available if you Google for its Chinese title. The first author's email is given as wo_wp@yahoo.com.cn, so if the LA Times is being honest, then tracking down this guy's blog should be possible with only that piece of information. Searching for this email address on Google does reveal a "rocybird" (not "Rocy Bird"), although I wasn't able to find anything on sina.com on a quick glance. He does seem to have a bunch of posts on Tianya from 2004 to 2007 for those interested.
