Re:All they need now...
According to Jim Allchin and GPLTrans:

Re:OK, Mr. Communist . . .More like multi-billion.
If you have for-profit media, you're gonna have corruption and a generally biased viewpoint when it comes to news, etc. If media was non-profit, those things may still exist, but to a lesser extent. Bias would be less evident and the media would try harder to be objective when it comes to reporting stories. Heck, they might even play better music in the process.

An ideaWhy not make news media non-profit? As is, most stations don't make much on advertising. If they were made non-profit, they would not have any incentive to continue their behavior. In fact, the large networks might even have fewer ads shown or heard, because there is no incentive to make a profit.

Re:Closed-Source translation! Boo!
OK, I triedGPLTrans just now:
This is a test of GPLTrans. I wonder if it's better than Babelfish. Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow. Everywhere that mary went, the lamb was shure to grok.
Dieses ist eines Test über gPLTrans. I Wunder wenn it's besser als babelfish. Mary hatte eines wenig Lamm, it's fleece wurde weiß wie schneien. überall dies mary gingen, die Lamm wurde shure zu grok.
When I tried to translate this back to English, I got an internal server error.
It seems to handle nonsense words and proper names by passing them through (what else could it do). Contractions don't appear to work well, unless ``it's'' is valid German.
I'm not sanguine about the GPL either, but as long as there is more than one option, I think we should know about it. Is anybody aware of any other on-line translation services?

Re:The Fishy stinks
Another good one is Translator.cx, a GPL'd translator.

Site that helps in contacting congresspeople
This site will automatically find your representatives (if you have forgotten), and send them an email/snail mail for you if you provide the text (and other information). i thought it was cool.

Microsoft gets pissed, *everyone* suffers
Someone should start a fund to help Slashdot in case Slashdot does get sued by Microsoft, even though it's very unlikely Slashdot will win. Maybe hire Johnny Cocran to take the case as well as Andover's lawyers. He's had great experience when it came to the O.J Simpson trial
;)
Anyways, everyone needs to write their representative now! This link will allow you to do so with ease. The DMCA needs to be stopped before it stunts technology permanantly. -
We're pretty much doomed.
But you can help now. This page allows you to write to government officals concerning laws like the DMCA and others. (This was rejected by Slashdot earlier BTW)
Getting on topic now, I think everyone's just greedy. We need a system where everyone is equalized, and which would prohibit anyone from being lower or higher than others. Information will also not have limits on it, and limits would be barred.
I doubt this will happen though. People won't live without a way to gain power and control.
