In general, though I just use the same popular torrent sites for everything else I get for books, too and I've gotten 6.28GB that way. You're wrong. Look at the details again. The Amiga is not actually playing the MP3s.

The GP referred to an Amiga 1200 - sold as stock with a 14MHz 680EC20 cpu. Even so, 7MHz A5/600s can play MP3s, and have been used in kiosk and mobile projects http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~utaba/A600/A600-e.htm l.

BP brings Thunder Horse online this year, the biggest off-shore field ever. Atlantis comes online next year, which is also quite large. BP has expensive options to drill in offshore areas that the technology to reach won't exist for at least 10 years. Shell and Exxon have placed similar bets.

Hey, I posted that to debian-devel. Scary to see it get Slashdot headlines, since this posting from Wichert Akkerman himself is more 'official'.
He's now probably busy setting up klecker.debian.org as the next security.debian.org host. Don't get yourself trojaned, please people, don't panic and just wait for the official Debian announcement that everything has been fixed again. Or play around with inofficial mirrors like these, and there are more. But I feel a bit stupid myself, because - unlike Wichert - I have done nothing myself except forwarding the news and act like a karma whore.

Convert MP3 to WAV, re-encode to MP3

Yuck. Re-encode just to remove a bit? C'mon, that's disgusting!

Go forth and find out how to use mp3asm to cut up MPEGs and re-assemble them frame by frame, since I suspect any record company with an eye toward expediency would use a similar tool (albeit nice and cute and graphical, I'm sure!) to tack ads on. Jeez, the way some people casually toss around re-encodes you'd think MPEG was totally lossless.

On a more relevant note, the mp3asm tool availble from the MPG123 web site is a really neat tool to look at the source to - it'll show you the specs of the MP3 format right there. If you're at all interested in the down-and-dirty of dealing with MP3 format files, that source is a great starting point.
