Re:Idiocracy
There's a lot in that movie that's fairly subtle.

Re:Design consultant
Huh. That lame little application is just a design firm's way of snarking about The Gap's failed rebranding attempt. If you follow the link to their blog, you discover they know fuck all about web design. They actually allow the reader to choose either of two layouts, both using obsolete fixed-width designs. Kind of undercuts their smug satire of other people's failures.

Re:Why do people like Ubuntu?
After Redhat mismanaged the discontinuation of RedHat Linux in favor of an enterprise focus, many people started fishing around for a replacement default Linux. (Yes, I know Redhat still has a desktop product, but the impression people got was that Redhat was going totally corporate.)
Add to that the legendary (even promised) instability of Fedora, which is explicitly and without apology presented as a testing vehicle.
In comes Ubuntu with the Circle of Friends imagery, the Ubuntu code of conduct, the word ubuntu itself ("open and available to others"), and the promise of "Linux for Human Beings".
The rapid growth of Ubuntu to #1 on Distrowatch was propelled by evangelism done by the same power users whose opinions are apparently not worth being listened to anymore.

Re:Woefully incomplete
If we're talking about logotypes in general, there's actually quite a lot of interesting reading:
Coke vs. Pepsi branding
Paul Rand's staggeringly impressive portfolio (More here) -- IBM, NeXT, OS/2, ABC, Enron, Westinghouse, and UPS logos were all designed by Rand.
Rand also proposed (a fairly swanky) new logo for Ford in the 60s, although the company continues to use the same logo that it did in 1912.
Famous logo nicknames
Raymond Loewy designed quite a few iconic oil company logos (and the US mail!).
Best and worst logos of 2008 -

Re:Not just a cut of the Pirate Bay sale
Hey, no problem. It's an imaginary sale, so I will pay it with imaginary money.

Re:Pot calling the kettle black
How is this a troll? C and UNIX were both developed by an even bigger, eviler company than MS could ever hope to be.
Which should be obvious when you look at their old logo and notice it looks like The Death Star from Star Wars!
