Re:Energy saving?
I've heard it said that any hard drive is in one of two states:
1) just about to die
2) already dead
I suggest setting up a RAID-1 on two hard drives. Software RAID is very easy to do on Linux (instructions for Slackware; most other distros have a point-and-click GUI that will set it up for you). For Mac OS X, I think you just have to run Disk Utility while booted from the DVD, create the RAID, then quit and proceed with the installer. I'm not sure if you can set up a software RAID in Windows Vista or not, but hardware RAID works fine (and without the F6 floppy retardedness of XP). -

Re:My first impression...
Depends on the laptop. In my experience, the touchpad is usually riding the PS/2 (/dev/psaux).
You might want to check-out LinuxLaptops.Org or the Slackware Linux Phorums over at UserLocal.Com. -
Re:Can anyone say why they don't release...
You can find nightly builds of slackware-current ISO's here.

Re:slackware sites??A quick rundown:
- LinuxPackages (formerly LinuxMafia), for user-contributed binaries not in the base distribution
- UserLocal is a 100% lynx compatible user community for Slackware.
- LinuxQuestions has a Slackware forum.
- Dropline Gnome, which packages GNOME stuff for Slackware. For a while, this was because Pat didn't include any GNOME 2 stuff. Now Dropline's packages are a replacement for the base Slack GNOME. Sometimes they're more up to date.

Re:ISO image available anywhere yet?
No need for the ISO images
... I built my own bootable ISO by following the instructions at http://www.userlocal.com/articles/isohowto.html -
Awesome.Just yesterday I was wishing for a feature that 21 would have: syntax highlighting in terminals. But after looking at these preview screenshots I don't think I mind the GUI look as much as I did with 20.
I hope the menus are a little more useful.

Userlocal.com is running a story on how all but the head of the Slackware project has been laid off. Patrick Volkerding is the only one left, due to Wind River aquiring BSDi/Slackware/CDROM.com
All Slackware core team members except Pat V. have been laid off
Posted Monday, April 16, 2001 by keskoy
Chris Lumens (Slackware Linux core team member) explained to me in IRC what happened:
Chris "David, Logan, and I were laid off from BSDi. Slackware will continue to be maintained. Right now, we can't say too much about what's going on due to the usual corporate hejaz, but hopefully we will be able to explain later. For now, keep on supporting Slackware and we'll continue to work on it"
David Cantrell also commented "all four of us are still Slackware core team members"
