Transparent Water Cooling Case
thefalconer writes "Over at the Via Hardware website one of the users there recently posted a very unique case mod that combines all of my favorites into a very cool design. Not only is the case totally transparent, but so are the covers on the hard drives, and it sports a water cooled Dual Athlon XP 2100+ processors. The case and all of the internal mods are entirerly hand made and it looks awesome." -

Shuttle SS40G Mini-PC
Thomas writes "Just got an email from a friend telling me Viahardware.com has put up a review of the Shuttle SS40G - the latest barebones system. I read through the review, and it looks like Shuttle has finally made a system that is capable of being totally silent. It has a cool heatpipe and radiator design for cooling the CPU, not to mention that it looks very cool." -

I read through the review, and it looks like Shuttle has finally made a system that is capable of being totally silent. They are reviewing a cool P4 mini-computer system that is perfect for the serious LAN gamer. The system has an AGP slot and will even fit a GeForce 4 Ti4600. It also has a built-in handle. Now if only we could get monitors to be this size and expand out to 19-21"." -

Shuttle SS50 Mini-system
Jared writes: "Small Form Factor is taking off, Viahardware wrote a review on the new Shuttle SS PC. In a case about the size of a shoebox, you get Pentium 4 support, DDR memory, firewire, tv out etc. Great box for all kinds of uses like a media box for the living room, file server, gateway, LAN box. Slashdot posted about the SV24 last fall, and this is the follow up product. Very cool." We've looked at some other Shuttle systems before. -
IBM 120GXP Revisited
Andrew sent us a link to an article about the IBM 120gxp controversy. This is about the fact that the drive has been declared unfit for server use, and to back that up, IBM says you should only use it for 333 hours a month. This is a good summary of the issues and worth a read. -

PhantomHarlock writes "VIAHardware posted a review of a great miniature PC desktop system from Shuttle, the motherboard manufacturer. It's a tiny aluminum case with a floppy bay and one 5 1/4 bay. It uses Shuttle's FV24 mobo, one of the smallest on the market. The motherboard has built in video (with S-Video out), audio, 10/100 Ethernet, USB and dual firewire ports. " Might be a nifty device to use as a stereo component with that S-Video out. -

VIA Samuel 2 Processor Preview
nofx_3 writes: "Viahardware has a preview up of VIA Cyrix's Samuel 2 core processor. The Samuel 2 is the first .15Micron x86 processor, and has a die size below 50mm2. 3D performance is still lacking, but 2D performance is every bit the Celeron's equal. Also, it requires no active cooling. Sounds like a great Linux Webpad CPU." Remember when AMD was an also-ran instead of the (arguable) price/performance leader? Nice to hear about the smaller players, especially when they're making inexpensive integrated hardware my mom would like to use.
