    Does anyone know what exactly is the deal here? Have domain-name disputes finally opened the door for a single, universal, all-encompasing product namespace?

    Yes, it makes MS's smart tag server DBA's life much easier. He is currently disgruntled over MS stock option losses and thinking of leaving.

    Life is better with no more of those pesky "in context, trademark violating, superimposed link" lawsuits from those "other" companies.

    All Success in this kind of activity can acomplish is to popularize arts under open licences.

    I see efforts by the RIAA like this like I see the BSA, it is the symptom of a problem raising peoples awareness of the negitive impact of itself. The problem being lenghty(infinate) copyright stay and binding contracts you don't have to physically see or sign prior to purchase.

    Officially free to watch and copy Internet TV here we come. Sure it won't be the same content, but it will be targeted to an audience that marketers know is smarter anyway. I'm sure a couple of reality shows, a few documentations, and a variation on junkyard wars would be a good cheap start. TV will now have competition, thank you TV police.

    I mentioned this in a previous article so I hope I don't get marked redundant.

    We live in a pop/tv culture. Most people who understand this DMCA case's potential impact are already out of touch with that culture. While this is honorable in some respects, it makes it difficult to communicate those risks to others.

    Go See that movie! Buy that CD! Keep in touch with the RIAA/MPAA dominated buzzwords/phrases/ideas! After each purchase, make a note of every dollar you spend on these things. Every few months wipe the slate clean and send matching funds to the EFF.

    FACT: Microsoft is now the fourth biggest soft money contributor in the USA.

    Observation: With these close election politicians will be running scared for contributons to win the next round. Especially the next commander and chief.

    Observation: People have knee jerk reactions and are offended at the idea that IP law is to slanted toward companies.

    It's not hard to see where this could go.

    I believe copyrite term should be shortened and contract law reformed. And I have written an editorial on the subject.
