Re:Hmmmm....
"Russia's industrial capacity was tremendous, and they produced tons of T34 tanks, which although being inferior to the types of panzers used on the eastern front in Europe just overwhelmed them in number."
They were not inferior, they were a far more BALANCED machine.
The opposing Panzers were variously too heavy, too lightly gunned (too-heavy Tiger and complex Panther excepted), too complicated to make in quantity (interleaved road wheels, anyone?), had inferior track loading, etc.
Is General Guderians opinion sufficient T-34 support? They were no "Ronson" Sherman tank.
""Numerous Russian T-34s went into action and inflicted heavy losses on the German tanks at Mzensk in 1941. Up to this time we had enjoyed tank superiority, but from now on the situation was reversed. The prospect of rapid decisive victories was fading in consequence. I made a report on this situation, which was for us a new one, and sent it to the Army Group; in this report I described in plain terms the marked superiority of the T-34 to our PzKpfw IV and drew the relevant conclusion as that must affect our future tank production. I concluded by urging a commission be sent immediately to my sector of the front... If this commission was on the spot it could not only examine the destroyed tanks on the battlefield, but could also be advised by the men who had used them as to what should be included in the design for our new tanks."

The too-late Panther looks like a T34/85 for good reason. :)
T-34 variants served for decades after WWII because they are so well-designed, and enough survived that if you have the bucks you can buy one to drive around your yard. -
Women in Uniform
After perusing this thread, I'm holding out for the MySpace site.

Is it marketing
Could this be a viral marketing gimmick? I couldn't help but notice that the "o" in the company logo (that is also the website icon) looks rather familiar in shape and color to the Xbox 360 spiral.

Re:Speed Difference
It does but in such a way that would keep an individual such as myself away. Now, granted I haven't installed Cedega yet but Hearts of Iron had pointer speed slow down at times. Same thing for Warcraft 3. I had huge issues with Steam and Counter-Strike/Day of Defeat with WineX 3 where I had framerates of 3-7 fps whereas under Windows XP, it averages 60-70 fps. Transgaming's support asks for me to install the latest version and try it. I will eventually.
I'm unfortunately addicted to Hearts of Iron which runs decently enough under WineX 3.

HoI
Hearts of Iron is one of the most insanely detailed games I have ever attempted to play. And it's quite historically accurate to boot.
The micro-management detail is HUGE.
If you play a smallish to medium sized country, your very first turn could easily consume 3 real hours of detailed planning and order giving. -
Re:Considering Sid ripped off Avalon Hill
Except that, oops, Microprose actually had permission to use the Civilization name for the original Sid Meier version. My copy of the game even had a card inside advertising the board game.

Re:The early games got shafted
Of course, I disagree with the idea that Final Fantasy is a game. A game involves strategic decision, with tradeoffs and non-linear development. Final Fantasy is a single plot-line, interspersed with puzzles and button-mashing. You're simply rewarded for pushing the right buttons with a little more of the story. Not that FF is not fun, it's just not a game, but an interactive movie in its current iteration.
Read Game Architecture and Design and see if you agree. I think we've lost sight of gaming with the advent of the interactive movie. That's why I stick to real, old-fashioned wargaming.
