Proposed explanations for the emergence of this style range from experts generally finding it difficult to be simple when writing about their expertise to more complex social and cultural theories: "Cynics charge ... that academics play an elitist game with their words: They want to exclude interlopers. Others say that academics have traditionally been forced to write in an opaque style to be taken seriously by the gatekeepers—academic journal editors, for example."

This link was sent to us by Eric Andreychek and it is a pretty darn scathing writeup on The Microsoft Situation (which I will now refer to it in its abbreviated form, 'TMS'). Eric is right- it needs a read.

ZDNet is running an article where you can read about the PalmPilot 3. It features a slimmer design, rounder corners, a new version of the OS, and infra red capability. Other than that, its the same pilot that a million or so people have already come to know and love. Thanks to Brad Wanner for letting us know.
