Somethign smells
This is a bogus complaint. First, WHSmith can't add DRM. Their ebookstore is provided by and run by Kobo. Second, that label has been changed in less than a day. The ebooks no longer say that they have DRM, and that suggests this was just a website bug: http://www.whsmith.co.uk/EProducts/Bangkok-Burn-Bangkok-Series-1+eBook+KB00106286902

Re:this is a good move
What on earth are you talking about?
Where are you buying books overseas? Only WH Smith and Waterstones have epub books overseas, neither has more than maybe 12,000 titles, and the collapse of the dollar means that books priced in pounds are far more expensive for readers here.
Your comment is entirely nonsensical. It's almost as though you were a planted commenter for Adobe, the provider of DRM for Sony's openwashed reader.

Re:7 Years and Running...
I don't use Amazon any more either. Partly due to the distasteful business practices, and partly because of a nightmare experience with their customer services. (one order, apparently in stock, arrived 3 months later - in triplicate! and the customer non-services people's attitude towards the urgency of providing a refund.)
Can I add to the list of alternatives for those Brits amongst us - WHSmith.co.uk who now get my business. Particularly as they let you order online, and collect in your local store. -
Deja Vu.
Sounds like something James Bond could use.

Re:Finally
There are plenty of multi-region players that correctly handle R1 RCE discs...
Techtronics in the UK do their own multi-region modding and I've not managed to confuse it with any R1 RCE title I've thrown at my Sony from them.
Also, I've tested the cheap Cyberhome CH-400 player (after modding via keypresses) and that's fine with RCE when set at region 0.
Not sure how other modded players fare, but there are tons of ways round it. -

Re:Don't like this system.
"See I have a couple of different reasons why this doesn't hit me as a fair deal from apple. [...] Why would I pay $1 a track, $15 a cd when I can go to a used Record/CD store, pick-up used copies of the artists I want to hear for about $6-$9 a pop."
Because you can actually find what you want immediately rather searching through 4 used record stores all over town before finding that used debut CD of The Primitives. You can also pick & choose the songs you want on your CD, and not pay for the crap you don't like. Plus if you can actually find decent used (working) CDs for $6 a pop, why don't you tell us all where this is so that we can pick some up before that store goes out of business?
"Those with this music service from apple will have to go out, get to the site, log in, find the track, pay for track, wait for confirmation of the payment being recieved, then once that confirm is recieved - download it, and then play it"
Ooh, that's tough. Almost like going out, get to the site, enter a book title in Search, find the book from the results, add to shopping cart, enter address, pay for the book, wait for the 1 second confirmation of payment being received, then wait for the thing to come in the mail. You're right, who the heck would have such a lame-ass business model? This music download service will certaily fail because it's way too cumbersome.
"Besides, I for one am still really leary of any site that wants me to pay for digital downloads, what's really there to stop the RIAA or some of their Brain Washed supportive Artists from coming after members on that service?"
How about the receipt they'll have that says they paid for their music? Or the contract between the record company and Apple saying they're authorised to sell that music for commission? If that's not enough, what's to stop the RIAA from coming after you when you buy new or used CDs instead? -
Re:Hm. I still have no idea what I want for Christ
How about the ultimate geek gift? Space travel pre-book here its £100K = ~$160K deposit, and they don't guarentee it will happen or that you won't have to cough up even more money, but its still the coolest present I have seen.

The British edition is still in printThis book is still in print in the UK. You can get a copy from Amazon UK for about $10 plus postage, or for slightly more from W.H. Smith if you are boycotting Amazon.
