Re:amusing
When being singled out and abused for being transsexual is institutionalized, you tend to get a bit nervous when technology is installed that would expose you as a transsexual to individuals with great power. Nearly every transsexual person has had bad experiences with police, clerks behind a counter, and those expecting your identification papers to fit within a narrow set of parameters. http://www.wmctv.com/global/story.asp?s=8515744
Also, a fat man with man boobs will not look the same on the image as a pre-op transwoman of normal weight. It will be very obvious who is transsexual with that scanner. Remember these scanners will be installed in airports around the world in countries having despicable records for abusing if not killing LGBT people.

Re:well duh...
There is a time and place for protesting, and during a presidential speech is not it. Like it or not, he is in charge (more or less) for the next few years and deserves his chance to get his points across as do his opposition. Let them hold a press conference. Let them inform the media they are going to protest at X time on Y date on against Z subject. If the media wants to come they will, if not, then maybe opposition groups need to rethink their strategy. What would happen if they didn't do this? Speeches and rallies would dissolve to a shouting competition and nothing would get done.
I recall an incident where Harold Ford Jr. ambushed Bob Corker http://www.wmctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5568809 and tried to derail his press conference. There are ways for people to get their point across and times when protesting is appropriate (demonstrations on public property etc.). Trying to out shout the president during a press conference or speech is not the way these things need to be done. -

Same with traffic reports
Many media conglomerates do the same thing with traffic reports. Here in Memphis, one company handles traffic for all of the CBS/Viacom/Infinity radio stations, and even has a live TV studio set up in their building so they can give traffic reports to the NBC TV station.
No, I don't understand why NBC and CBS are working together in this regard, there's something weird going on. The contact info for one local radio station gives @cbs.com email addresses, but check the postal address, 1960 Union Ave. They broadcast from the same building as the local NBC affiliate.
The ClearChannel stations have their own competing alternative called the Total Traffic Network. All of the CC stations have the same guy/gal reporting the traffic each day. -

The attack on the medical examiner...
...happened in Memphis. Local news, including video (in which you can read the psychotic, rambling letters if you pause at the right point) is here.
