Simple firefox addon for flash cookie removal
Objection is simple flash cookie removal tool/Firefox addon. It is a fork/continuation of the original program by greg yardley
This is a great program. It works as advertised. The only issue I have is Objection's automatic detection of the directory that holds the flash cookies. I have to manually tell the program that the cookies are in:
/home/MYUSERNAME/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects/RANDONNUMBERAlso Objection is being actively developed and it looks like a new version 4 will be out soon, unfortunatly for me the beta version of 4 could not find the cookies even though i pointed it to the appropriate directory.

Re:Whats the new definiation of privacy these days
Macromedia Flash has a local shared object (LSO), which is similar to a cookie, but less known.
I presume the proposed tactic is to set a cookie with an id and add the same id to a LSO. That lets you see what happens to your cookies over time, as long as the LSO doesn't get deleted.
Since there is no LSO management tool by default, LSO's have better lifetimes than cookies.
There is a firefox extension howerer, that lets you view and delete those LSO's.
I expect this functionality will eventualy become more widespread, giving LSO's the same kind of reliability as cookies. -
Re:Firefox...
You for got Objection extension for removing LSO's (Local Shared Objects)
NOW you are set! :) -
Re:Flash shared objects
Does anyone know of a spyware removal program that kills shared object files?
not a program per say, but this works great as a Firefox extension, works on all the main platforms too.
The author states the reason such an extension exists and provides links to marketeers bragging about how they can beat cookie deleters by using the capability, of course if you combine this extension with the Flashblock extension they rarely get the chance to abuse the localstore -
Re:Tinfoil hat security...
There's a Firefox extension that finds your Local Shared Objects directory and allows you delete them. Only problem I noticed is that the remove all button doesn't work (FF1.0.4 Fedora Core 3). It doesn't work on Deer Park Alpha, though.

Re:Magical new targetted advertising
Nah, it's a Flash function (Local Shared Objects) that behaves like cookies and can replace them. Lucky us, Firefox already has an extension to delete these suckers
