If natural selection really works(and I think it does) then people with moral misgivings about this technology will refuse to accept medical help from stem cells and will have a higher mortality rate than godless heathens. Maybe they'll interpret their decline as the arrival armageddon. It could also mean a true separation of church and state.
Of course this all assumes that people will actually refuse treatment because of their religious/moral beliefs which I highly doubt, even diehard churchgoers don't believe that the sun revolves around the earth anymore.
Not just for Godless anti-American hippie communist atheist freaks anymore!
Oh, wait...
Ask yourself, what is an intellectual like? What kind of atmosphere would an intellectual seek out? What kinds of things would appeal to an intellectual? What kinds of rewards would an intellectual seek out?
Now, take a peek around the US climate. Idiocy is shoved down our throats from every angle. Television is a waste-land of vapidity, bookstores stock light-weight fluff, education is the first thing to get cut whenever the wolverines in office need more pork to go around. Those who study and work hard are looked down upon as "geeks", "nerds", "bookworms" and worse, even to the point of getting beat up by the pick-up rednecks whenever they can't find any of their favorite minorities.
When I lived in Las Vegas, it came up to a vote on whether to build more libraries. Citizens of the city, who were thrilled to get 3 more hootie bars, 10 more casinos, and that "Wheel of Fortune" was auditioning at the Luxor, came out MARCHING IN PROTEST against building more libraries - the cheapest possible government expenditure!
Just today, there was a story in the news about Utah students who hooked a GPS up to a wheelchair to produce a satellite-guided navagation system for a small vehicle. Who are they looking to offer the idea to for further development? Car manufacturors, so we can have self-steering cars and have fewer accidents? Nursing homes, so more handicapped patients can have better mobility? Heck, no, they're gonna sell it to the military!
What is the richest person in our country rich for? A superior feat of engineering? No, a famously inadequate platform which he then keeps in business through legal bully tactics.
Who's the most famous American scientists? Einstein, Bohr, Feynmann? What was their field? Physics. What did we do with their research? Make bombs.
Hello, Average American. I'm an aspiring scientific researcher, looking for funding for my projects. Would you be interrested in contributing for... AIDS research? "No, way, the sooner the fags die, the better!" conservation? "What, are you some kinda tree-hugging hippie?" alternative energy resources? "AAAAHHH! You're trying to devalue my Exxon stock!" general medicine? "No, your stem-cell research is an abomination against God!" computer science? "Thank God we have AOL to protect us against hackers like you!" ah...
Hey, Average American! Name five NFL players! Name five NASCAR drivers! Name three Tournament-winning Golfers! Name ONE Nobel-prize-winning scientist!
Yeah, America has *no* problem keeping ahead of the pack! We're *number one* and anybody who says different is just agenda-pushing and fear-mongering! Now don't bother me, I'm on my way to get that Godless evolutionary theory out of my child's educational curricullum.
Meanwhile, other countries see brains going to waste, and wouldn't at least one or two of them either strive to encourage their own brain-power or offer bigger salaries in the hopes of luring America's wasted talent overseas? What do you think, Average American? "Oh, no, anybody too stupid to speak English wouldn't think of that!"
Don't ask me why that is, but it seems to be the way of things.
Isolated rural areas then to be monocultures. A single religion and a single church and little contact with people from the rest of the country, much less with foriegners. Anyone who is gay or atheist or otherwise out of the ordinary will most likely conceal that fact.
I happen to live in a "blue" area. There are a dozen distinctly different churches and temples within about 3 miles. Not only local community filled with americans decended from all over the globe, I have met a substantial number of foriengers and been to over half a dozen different countries.
I have had, sitting in my livingroom at the same time, people of at least 4 religious persuasions plus several sub-varients, white, black, puerto rican, indian, asian, hispanic, openly gay, interracial couples, and more. Just an ordinary social gathering for me and my friends, and my livingroom had about as much diversity as some entire counties.
I'd say the "red" issue is a combination of lack of experience with people living different lives without stepping on each other's toes, an implicit idea that the local monoculture is just "the way things are" and the assumption that that's how it is elsewhere, not realizing how different things are in other churches of the same religion, and more than a touch of just plain xenophobia.
But heay, what do I know. I'm just one of those liberal elite / intellectual elite. I'm a snob. I'm intolerant... of intolerance. I'm a godless heathen who wants to let people live any way they please disintegrating the "moral fiber" (aka conformity) of society.
I also strongly hold and defend traditional values. Above all, striving for Liberty and Equality for all. Defending our constitutional rights against government infringment, including the right to freedom of religion. A pluralistic society where we live and let live. One where the government does not tell us how to live, does not interfere in our personal lives.
They love to talk of values. I do not believe using the government as a religious tool is a traditional american value. I do not believe discriminatory laws are a traditional american value. I do not believe that intolerance is a traditional american value. I do not believe that xenophobia is a traditional american value.

I am the proponent of an EXCITING NEW SCIENTIFIC THEORY which challenges all basic tenets of computer science. We call our theory the Little Invisible Mathematicians Proposal, or LIMP.
For the last number of decades, computer science was thought to have been popularized by such so-called "inventions" as the "transistor". Our organization, which is growing in (God-initiated) leaps and bounds, proposes that trapped inside your everyday computer are the souls of literally HUNDREDS of tiny, invisible mathematicians (many of whom were fetuses aborted by their murderous, pro-life, heathen ACLU-type mothers) who use their thousands of holy slide-rules to try and figure out the answer when you ask calc.exe what 1337 squared is (it's 1787569, and I figured that out whith a pen and paper so as not to torture any more fetus' souls).
These lost souls are being enslaved by terrible companies like Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, who claim to be doing "valid research" into crackpot "computer science" just so you won't find out the horrible truth about the inner workings of your computer. We believe that all these so-called "computers" are nothing more than the work of the left-leaning, limousine-liberal, ACLU-loving Jewish Media Conspiracy which aims to destroy the jobs, souls and minds of countless Christian^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H LIMP supporters who might otherwise be spending their time in the valuable industry of transcribing monkish Bibles by hand.
By constantly creating new software, these so-called "computer scientists", whom for the sake of objectivity we shall refer to as "child-murdering sociopaths", are working thousands of fetal souls tirelessly, until enough have been sucked into Hell from overwork that the "computer" owner must purchase a new "computer".
You won't read about our theory in communist rags like "Scientific American" or "Popular Science" because they didn't accept our manifesto^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H article for publication, claiming it was "inconsistent with scientific principles". Clearly, they are simply so afraid of the Truth of our theory that we feel that our theory has been leant extra validity in its very denial by the Godless socialist magazines who are trying to kill religion. We believe that it should not even be called a "theory" any more--as theories are open to question--but rather should be called a fact, since we say that it is one.
No, they don't get "taught evolution." Even TODAY, the teaching of evolution is weak and usually non-existent, because of worries that some fundie will get offended that what is taught doesn't include Noah's ark.
With any further "de-emphasis", kids will be taught that "all this is controversial, so approach it with your open mind" while on Sunday, the preachers will all warn them about "godless Evolution being the tool of the devil" and the result will be more stupid people.
If people started teaching math "well, you know 2+2=4 depends on controversial set theory, so we should maintain an open mind, such as a theory that 2+2=5 might also be true" people would become stupider. The analogy is exact.
As far as ID, the whole point of the movement is to open up a hole to drive religion into the schools where science education gets pushed out.
This whole brouhaha is about political controversy replacing logical thought. The logical thinkers settled this so-called controversy a century ago, and have moved on to other things. ID was recognized as bogus a hundred years ago, but the flat-earth types keep bringing it up again.
Why not give equal time to Aristotle's theories of celestial motion? Because they are wrong.
From my observations, this is a fight that is continued by small minded people on both sides of the fence.
You bring up the very valid points that religious mysticism will not help us build better bridges while pure, hard materialistic science does not answer any questions about how to life harmoniously with each other.
Religion and the physical sciences are not mutually exclusive. They are just treated as such within many circles. I find it very sad that many people think you have to an atheistic materialist in order to perform good science.
You want to see the fruits of a godless society? Think of Communist Russia. Did the Russians continue to thank Stalin for ridding them of that pesky religion thing? No, they welcomed it back into their country with open arms. It does seem to provide some solutions or at least the hope thereof that science alone doesn't provide.
Tell me again why the rest of the world should be careful not to hurt the vast majority of American's feelings when they are the assholes responsible for voting in Republicans time and again?
;) I can deal with being called fat, lazy, apathetic, and uncultured. Hell, I can tolerate being called a pervert, a godless heathen, and a eater of babies.
Oh, no, I never said that. Insult Americans all you want. Shit, I'm American and I denounce them on a regular basis!
All I said was watch the pronouns.
But, for the love of the gods, do NOT imply that I voted for Redneck Nero.
I look forward to seeing your human level AI generated using your evolutionary algorithms.
I've got an idea. How about you go into a university and ask a scientist to explain how volcanos work and how one could have entombed the city of Pompeii and turned people into statues.
Then tell him you look forward to seeing him erupt a volcano and bury an entire city and thousand of people -- in his lab.
Yep. And then you should walk off in a superior attitude that you showed him. Yep, damn scientists claiming they know how volcanos work and explaining how it works and showing off stupid laboratory proofs that all of the stuff in the explanation actually works, but then they can't even erupt a volcano in the lab an engulf an actual city! What frauds!
Oh, and dont even get me started with those gravitationist frauds! Not only can't they put a billion stars in galactic orbit in the lab, they can't even make a single stinking little black hole in the lab.
Those godless gravitiations shouldn't be teaching their "theory" in public classrooms. Damn atheist conspiracy.

Science is for godless fags.
You have some balls. This country has ALWAYS been a religously minded country ever since its founding. Clinton was nothing more than a moron and it is funny that you think the US as fallen apart since then, when actually it has never changed all that much. There are certain groups of liberals in the US that have forced more Christians out into the public because the liberals are challenging the foundations of our country and they are trying to change our country into something it was never meant to be.
The fundamentalists are the liberals. They are the godless wonders that are trying to rule the country. They have no understanding of the South or the Midwest, nor our values.
I am guessing you are from Europe because of your trash talk. Would you rather be living with the Germans? That is how it would be if we wouldn't have saved your sorry asses. Our country was just as based on God during the 40's as it is now and as it was throughout the 20th century.
Want proof?
Look at our money for one, "In God We Trust". And the pledge of allegeance in our country with, "One Nation Under God".
Nothing much has changed except more liberal wackos in our country coming out and trying to change things here.
That's one take on it. Another way to look at it is that since God is omniscient, he knows exactly what's going to happen in the future before the events even transpire. Therefore, he put the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden knowing full well that Adam would eventually be tricked into eating it.
I mean, think about it: if Adam and Even didn't know the difference between Good and Evil, then how could they be guilty of wrong-doing since they had no way of determining right from wrong--yes, God told them not to do it, but would they have known that disobeying God is wrong? Secondly, if one is incapable of making moral judgements for themselves, and had to always rely on the instincts and judgment of God, then does one really have Free Will?
So an alternative interpretation for this Biblical allegory is that God put the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden, not to test man, but to see man realize their Free Will through disobeying him and attaining the knowledge to make moral judgements themselves. The way we prove that we truly are faithful to God is then to exercise our own best judgement to arrive at the same decisions that God would have wanted us to make, without God actually commanding us to do so.
But i'm just a Godless heathen who's going to Hell so what to I know?
Read a topic like this at -1 and you'll find a fair number of posters who like being in the American Empire. They like the "we're number one!" thing, they like the knee-jerk machismo that flows from military adventurism, they really do think they're God's chosen country, and they're perfectly willing to let their leaders trample over a world they see as filled with terrorists, godless communists and spineless Eurotrash. I say you guys should force those people go fight in bush's war. After all, it's what they want isn't it? Clearly, if they defend the ideal, they should back it up by participating should they not? Bet they'd jump off of their America's #1 soapbox pretty quick if the draft were brought back. And for those that want to go fight, well, if there's any real justice in the world, they'd be shot full of holes in the sands of Iraq. Either way good riddance to bad rubbish.
Americans don't recognise that they live in an empire in all but name
Leaving aside the pitfalls of generalizing about "Americans" (something that's becoming increasingly meaningless as that nation polarizes) and confining discussion to the red-staters, I'm not sure the problem is that they "don't recognise" that the US is an empire. It's more that they don't recognise that it's a bad empire. The British Empire wasn't exactly shy about announcing itself, but jingoistic pride, cultural arrogance and a nationalistic media all combined to ensure that its citizens were generally happy about that empire.
I think the same holds here.
Being a soldier who just got back from Iraq I'm actually pretty pissed at this because of the fucking dangers behind it. But I'll leave it at that.
If the majority of American soldiers were as "pissed" at the needless loss of life, brutality, and, to paraphrase British Intelligence officers, general treatment of Iraqis as subhuman, it is quite likely that this situation and many thousands like it would never have occurred. American propagandists are not credible when accusing Iraqi freedom fighters for mostly hitting civilians (as American soldiers increasingly hide behind the skirts of civilians) when most Iraqis killed by Americans have been civilians as well, and American techniques are only a stone's throw from those of Sadaam, the former best friend of America until they threatened the oil supply.
While I pray for the lives of the American troops, I pray first for the Iraqis defending their homeland against such Godless immoral aggressors, that a few Americans with morals will stand up for the true victims in the case, and hope that Americans would make such a brave stand in a similar occupation of America by a different culture dictating what was right.
This is a wonderful idea. I'm also looking forward to the new, remastered version of "Inherit the Wind", where all the compelling dialogue in favor of evolution are replaced with "blah blah blah I'm a godless, heathen commie!"
What ClearPlay is doing sort of nudges up against the concept of "derivative works". What you're suggesting doing drives straight over it. I'm not sure whether it should be illegal. I especially don't think a person should incur financial liability if they're not making money off it. But I worry that we're already in a society where people can tailor their information stream to precisely match their pre-conceived biases. The line has to be drawn somewhere, and if somebody wants to watch "The Day After Tomorrow" without being exposed to the insidious greenie-liberalism of Hollywood, they cross the line.
Ollie North is a True Patriot who Valiently Defended Our America Way of Life from Godless Commies. Who are you to denigrate him? Ollie North Saved this Country All by Himself. Would you stand in the corner and Cluck like a Chicken if so Ordered?
I'm an American and proud of what this country SHOULD be. I am ashamed of what this country has become. Honestly, have you ever considered that the majority of people in power are whores to corporate interests.
Actually that's a very nasty thing to say so I'll apologize. Most prostitutes don't deserve to be lumped together with the political low lives in Washington DC.
I don't think the poster meant to tear down all Christians only the far right zealots that have perverted our political process. They have embarked on a campaign of lies and half truths. They spin their religious beliefs into the political system in an attempt to paint anyone who does not share their set of values into Godless scum that have no values themselves.
The fact is that the reason you're beginning to hear the kind of statements that you objected to is because the far right is guilty of EXACTLY what you are complaining about.
You're right about getting women to stay home and raise babies, but the reason isn't liberalism, it's conservatism.
It's the conservative fatcats who've raised the cost of living and forced those women to go to work. I'm sure most of them would rather be good liberal earthmothers and stay home with the kids.
But the conservatives want more money, so they need women in the workforce (for lower salaries!) so they bring home more money to be spent. Money spent by the proles means more money in corporate coffers = more money in fatcat pockets.
So the real Americans, the liberals, have to work to support the godless fat lazy power-broker fucks; that's important, because the master race needs more yachts.
