Drivers Wanted
loosenut asks: "I'm the proud owner of an Opcode 64x MIDI patchbay. Unfortunately, Opcode was bought out by Gibson a few months back, and they have basically discontinued driver support. Is there anybody out there that takes requests to create hacked drivers? A friend mentioned that he has seen offers, but can't find the URL." So is there a Driver Coding Guild out there who takes on assignments like this?
There's a utility at sysinternals.com or somewhere similar that will let you watch what's going over a serial port in Windows. That would let you see how the control the device. I imagine you're one of a few people that would like to use the box under linux so you may not have much luck.
Good idea, but this isn't a sound card. It's a MIDI patchbay. The problem is there probably aren't a lot of coders out there that know what these things do or how you use them. If you find someone willing to work on the project, you'll probably have to describe in a fair amount of detail what the driver is supposed to do. Maybe try posting on some newsgroups or IRC channels frequented by musicians. You may get lucky and run across a geek musician that would be interested. Good luck.
Admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations.
My best recommendation would be to go to the ALSA Project web page. They deal with the creation of drivers for a lot of sound cards. I'm not sure if your particular version is supported, but it's worth a try. My Sound Blaster live was available. Maybe you can ask the coders about support if it doesn't. Does this sound card support other formats? Does it have features like Sound Blaster 16 compatibility or something along that line? Just a thought...
