Liberty Bell 7 on tour

beagle writes "CNN has an article about Liberty Bell 7, which was found last July after 38 years at the bottom of the sea. That's old news - what's new is that restoration of the capsule by the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center is complete, and the capsule will be on tour around the country for three years before being returned to the Cosmosphere for permanent display." Now this is pretty cool. I always thought that Gus Grissom never got the recognition he deserved... maybe this makes some small measure of amends.

    ...Think about what they could have done with the money they wasted on the restoration of that capsule. I think it's all a big show-off... But then again, more money is spent on things like... *shiver* sports... that are even more useless. Oh well.

    I hope the Kansas Comosphere museum ticket prices are high.

    I fail to see what her feelings have to do with anything in this situation. If her husband had died on that mission, then yes, I would. If she had financed the entire operation personally, then again I would. Last I checked, neither of these is true.

    What's next, should I prevent the owner of my late mother's cars from doing any after-market work on them. After all, she *was* my mother, so what if she didn't die in a car accident.

    Gus Grissom's widow was against the restoration of the capsule. I guess her feelings were not taken into account.

      Well, why should they be? She didn't design the capsule. She didn't build it. She didn't fly it. She has absolutely nothing to do with the bloody thing except that she happens to be the widow of the guy who flew it, and he didn't even die on that mission, he died in the Apollo 1 fire. She finds it "disgusting" that the family wasn't consulted? Who the hell does she think she is?
