Er, no, hydronium ions (H3O+) and hydroxide ions (HO-) IIRC. In pure water there's something like a 10^-7 molar concentration of H3O+, which is what pH 7 means. So pure water has lousy conductivity, but add a little electrolyte and it's much better.
Well, of course, it was actually Al Gore's idea. Everyone knows he invented the internet. And the microprocessor. And all of computer science...where do you think the word "algorithm" came from?
According to our legal staff, The Standard is infringing on our patent #31415926, A Method for Producing Loud Groans and Retching Noises, with this lame pun. We are therefore warning The Standard to immediately cease and desist from this infringement or face legal action.
Sorry you feel that way. Perhaps, instead of asking others to moderate according to your tastes, you should get an ID and do your own moderation. I fail to see why the community should pay attention to your wishes if you're not willing to pull your share of the load.
Well, that's my point. So far at least (and let's all try real hard to keep it that way), no one has to use Microsoft's crap (except at work maybe, but that's just one more aspect of the pointy-hairedness of work in general). Anyone who goes to the trouble of getting a clue can switch to Netscape, Linux, BSD, StarOffice, whatever.
Considering all the opportunities computer users have for finding out about the alternatives, I'm not inclined to waste a lot of tears on the ones who continue to use junk.
I would never buy an eMachine. I hope all of you out there in/. land don't either.
My fiancée bought one in October 1999 and after three phone calls still hasn't received her $75 rebate. (We'll send it soon, it's in the mail, must've got lost, we'll cut a new check, yada yada.)
As for service, when the hard drive started acting funny, causing frequent BSODs, their tech support people said it was probably a virus. Uh, yeah. In fairness I have to admit they sent the replacement machine fairly quickly.

I don't think it was modded down for failing to follow what you perceive as a "party line". I think it was modded down because it's so brain-dead it has to be a troll.

Can we say that putting your hand in this stuff and then smashing it on a wall would be cool? Well we could say that, but you'd be in a lot of pain.
Not right away ;)
