If you check the current Netcraft survey, you'll find a breakdown by OS that puts the BSD's a bit behind Solaris at about 6.3% (vs. 7.6%), with Linux at 28.5%.
More relevant to the topic, I'd be very interested if Netcraft did a breakdown by country or region both for OS and Server. It would give an idea of just how popular BSD (for example) is in Europe as a server platform. Of course, attendance at conferences like these is another measure, but independent verification of the interest level helps to show whether the conference is getting its message out or not.
Regional Variations
The results summarised above are from a world-wide perspective and significant variations can occur in regional analyses. Out of 32 countries with at least 0.1% of sites on the web each, Windows computers outnumber Unix-like computers in 22 of them. The countries with the largest proportions of Windows web servers are China, South Africa and Singapore. Countries in which Unix-like operating systems maintain the strongest lead are Poland, Hungary, Japan, Russia and Germany, with Linux strong in Poland and Hungary, and BSD in Russia and Japan. Linux leads Windows in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Germany, while in Finland, home country of Linus Torvalds, Windows has a tiny lead over Linux!

Hmmm, have you checked to see what Linux distro he uses at home? It ain't the idiotic, broken and unstable distro.
That a certain idiotic, broken and unstable distro can become the number one distro only proves that the average user Linux user isn't any more intelligent than the average Windows user.
A Government Is a Body of People, Usually Notably Ungoverned
I'm not quite sure at this point if I'll be going, as so far, I'm not sure I can afford a trip over there, and I don't know what kind of crowds it will draw. In any case, it's great to see BSD users in Europa getting a decent con. I hope to see me there :)
