Structures of Intellectual Property
PeterP writes: "ARSTechnica has an interesting editorial today. It advocates altering the discussion of intellectual property laws to be one of structures, as opposed to rights. Kind of a breath of fresh air from the dogmatic, kneejerk debates this topic usually brings up. An interesting read, too." I second that. Definitely one to read and think about.
it's not about wanting MP3s for free. do you know how many MP3s i have? i think about 15. only a few do i even listen to regularly (tenacious d @ largo), and that is not available on CD.
how many CDs do i have? 100+.
i buy CDs regularly, i rarely download any MP3s.
the issue is the music industry is lazy and overcharges for their product. i want my new albums to be in DVD audi and DTS. i want not only to hear left to right but front to back.
the troll here is you.
no one needs the notion of intellectual property to live a happy life. the artists don't, the corporations don't and i sure don't. i'm speaking as a programmer here as well.
if you can't stay ahead of those trying to copy you, then you deserve to fall behind.
there's nothing that stops one car company from mimicking another (look at lexus' entire line-up, nothing but imitations and amalgamations of european autos), yet somehow the best still stay on top, and there's still room for the immiatators as well.
you need to open your eyes and stop being such a bigot. i'm not saying down with money, down with corporations. i'm saying down with lazy greedy corporations which do nothing to improve the products they make (and this includes a lot more than just the music industry, it's just the easiest topic for most people to relate to.)

Think different? I'd be happy if most people would just think...
