New Web Standards

j7953 writes: "The World Wide Web Consortium has released the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) 2.0 as a W3C recommendation; and the Web3D Consortium has announced they will present first browsers supporting their X3D standard (here's a draft), which is supposed to replace VRML, at Siggraph 2001."

    90% of all users are not willing to download something if it is not included and is not automated. Flash for example, if it practically didn't install itself, no one would use it. Java, on the other hand, was included in MSIE and that was not compatible with every other Java. How many people did you see rushing out to download Sun Java. Not that many. If their is a plug-in that will practically install itself and MS does not include it, their is no problem. When their isn't one, most people aren't going to manually install it. Java in XP is going to die unless their is a SUN plug-in or something.
